Gannon on PBS' "In The Life"
I am featured in the June edition of the PBS program "In
The Life." See your tax dollars at work! WARNING:
This month's host is Jeanane Garafalo.

Demise of "60 Minutes" assured with Rather arrival
I've heard it referred to as a "death rattle." STORY
In Washington state the dead vote Democrat
Just like in Chicago and South Dakota, Washington state Democrats get 100%
of the dead vote. As a result of Republican Dino Rossi's challenge of the
"three-count" gubernatorial election, two people have already
admitted they cast votes on behalf of their dead spouses. STORY
Kerry wants to be a Kool-Aid kid
The vanquished Democratic presidential candidate has expressed interest in
the latest conspiracy theory the Hard Left thinks will bring down the Bush
administration. After Gannongate failed to be any kind of scandal at all,
the moonbats, led by Rep. John Conyers are touting some notes allegedly written
by an aide to British Prime Minister Tony Blair as proof that "Bush
Lied!" STORY
Might these papers have been leaked?
I'm wondering why Kerry has signed but not filed that pesky Form 180 that would
release his FULL military record. When is a good time for a "war
hero" to authorize the publication of documents that show he was given a
less than honorable discharge?

My critics are unusually silent.

Let's strap some of my former colleagues to the polygraph. Come here,
Helen! Better yet, let's hook up Dan Rather and Eason Jordan.
Good company

Somebody sent me this picture. I can't say much for the threads, but
the company is none too bad.
A voice of tolerance among the intolerant

The Advocate cover story sparked angry letters from the intolerant radical
gay Left:
"worst queer

"creep...bottom

But the magazine did publish one letter from someone who made the case for
civility:
"judge not

Wash. Dems: "We're incompetent, not sinister!"
The closest gubernatorial race in American history is still being contested in
Washington state. One election official claims poll workers in
Democrat-dominated King County made mistakes but did not purposely throw the
election to Dem. Christine Gregoire. STORY

Abusive Hillary unfit for office?
John Harris's book on the Clintons provides an account of an abusive,
emasculating First Lady. But we knew that. If we apply the Bolton
standard to her candidacy, she should not be running for anything - except
maybe a double Scotch. STORY
Bush, Cheney slam "human rights" group
The "blame America first" crowd will go berserk over the President
and Vice President's comments about Amnesty International. STORY

The show will also put Steve Gardner, a shipmate of John Kerry to the

in Vietnam and the members of Kerry's "Band of Brothers" lied during
last year's presidential campaign.

World-traveling Dems defend trips
We have a winner for the most ridiculous excuse to come out of the
political assassination of Tom DeLay. Now that the records of many
members of Congress are being scrutinized, red-faced Democrats are scrambling
to explain their own behavior. The one from Rep. Steny Hoyer, the #2

May 30, 2005 - Memorial Day
Leftists took the day off
With only minor exceptions, members of the pro-terrorist, anti-American,
anti-military Left were nowhere to be seen in the nation's capital.
Washington, DC's first Memorial Day parade since World War II and the ceremony
at Arlington today capped off three days of remembrance of America's defenders
of freedom. President George W. Bush and Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld made inspiring remarks. STORY
Honoring those who died so we might be free
I'll be making a special visit to the hallowed ground of Arlington National
Cemetery today. Every American should take a moment today to remember
those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom we too often take for granted.

Liberal media activists to meet Conyers today
Democratic Rep. John Conyers summoned liberal media activists to
Capitol Hill today for a panel discussion: "Media Bias and the
Future of Freedom of the Press". It will likely focus on how
liberals should go about maintaining their exclusive franchise on the
mainstream media. Unfortunately for them it is too late.
Scheduled to appear:
Al Franken, the Al Franken Show, Air America Radio David Brock,
founder of liberal Media Matters
Randi Rhodes, the Randi Rhodes Show, Air America
Joe Madison, The Black Eagle Radio Show
Justin Webb, senior Washington correspondent, BBC Eric Alterman,
senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress
Steve Rendall, liberal media watchdog group, FAIR (Fairness and
Accuracy in Reporting)
Mark Lloyd, senior fellow at the liberal Center for American
Progress.
Squishy Senators "kick the can"
Republican Senators who consider themselves moderates joined with
Democrats to broker a deal that postponed any action on the
"constitutional option" for giving judicial nominees a fair
up-or-down vote. Even the liberal Washington Post realizes that it
solves nothing. But it will energize the Right in the fight for the
independence of the judiciary. STORY

Is there any doubt?
Newsweek's February 2, 2005 Japanese edition:

NYT columnist defends Newsweek
Frank Rich proves that he takes a big gulp of Kool-Aid before he sits down
to write his column.
Here is a guy who works in the epicenter of media bias yet continues to blather
about the White House manipulation of the media.
Two questions come to mind, has Rich ever heard of Jayson Blair and Howell
Raines? And it wasn't long ago that writers of his ilk were praising the
Clinton White House for its ability to spin the media?

White House reporter admits press corps' bias
It was a great give and take between radio host Hugh Hewitt and ABC White
House correspondent Terry Moran on Wednesday. TRANSCRIPT
Some select tidbits from Hugh and my former colleague:
TM: "There is...a deep anti-military bias in the media. One
that begins from the premise that the military must be lying, and that American
projection of power around the world must be wrong."
- But we already knew that.
HH: Are there members of
the White House Press Corps, Terry, who actually hate Bush?
TM: I would say the answer to that is yes.
HH: And what percentage of them, do you think that amounts to?
TM: Uh, small, I would say, but some big fish.
- It's not that small and I know who they are, by name.
HH: What's your guess about the percentage of the White House Press Corps that
voted for Kerry?
TM: Oh, very high. Very, very high.
HH: 95%?
TM: Huh?
HH: 95%?
TM: No, I don't think that high. But I would certainly say, you know, it's hard
for me, but I'd guess it's in...upwards of 70, maybe higher. You know, it's
hard for me to say, but I would say very, very high.
- Hugh nails it here. I can count only 3 of the regulars at the time
of the election who probably voted for Bush - and one of them is me.
On a personal note, Terry Moran and I always had a friendly relationship
despite our obvious political differences. I wish him continued success.

Liberal media scrambles to defend Newsweek
First it was CBS with Rathergate, then CNN with Easongate, now it's
Newsweek with Flushgate. All of these controversies have brought
attention to how liberals have abused their virtual monopoly of the media
to pursue a political agenda. Other media elites are rushing to
defend Newsweek's reprehensible lack of journalistic ethical conduct,
invoking Gannongate as some kind of equivalence.
They continue to make reference to me as a "fake" journalist,
because I am clearly a conservative and asked questions that millions of
Americans wanted to have answered. I
often wrote about the professional conduct of other journalists and their
news organizations.
My reporting on Tom Daschle and the Sioux Falls Argus Leader has been
credited with having a profound effect on last year's senate race in South
Dakota. It was my reporting the first exposed Ambassador Joe
Wilson's deception about how his was chosen for the mission to
Niger. I was also first to report that CBS producer Mary Mapes was
the source of the phony documents at the heart of Rathergate.
In retaliation for my reporting and for breaking through the ideological
barrier of the White House press corps I have been the subject of wild
conspiracy theories, character assassination and an unconscionable
invasion of privacy. None of these things have anything to do with
anyone at the White House and and are irrelevant to my work at a
journalist.
These intimidation tactics will fail. I will continue to speak out -
but more loudly than before.
As far as the Newsweek debacle, it is truly laughable is that the most
liberals can push back against the tidal wave of negative PR with is some
unfounded criticism of me. As you can read, the talking points went
out last night:
Joan Walsh at the liberal Salon complains about the White House bullying
the media STORY
Bill McClellan of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the paper that was just
sold with stipulation that it remain editorially liberal chimes in. STORY
San Francisco Chronicle adds its two cents. STORY
Elisabeth Bumiller of the New York Times, doesn't mention Gannongate, but
quotes "one outside Bush adviser, who spoke on the condition of
anonymity" who suggested that the White House wanted to put a
"check on the press." STORY
May 17, 2005
No bias in the White House press corps?
Today's briefing demonstrates what I have been saying all along. We
have John Roberts of CBS, the Rathergate network, working the Democratic
talking points on the filibuster debate and ABC's Terry Moran and the New York
Times' Elisabeth Bumiller taking Scott McClellan to task over his remarks about
Newsweek's errant story. For the record, it was Bumiller's story last
year that cited a "rumor" from an anonymous source that Vice
President Dick Cheney was going to be dumped from the ticket. The story
ran on the front page above the fold. WATCH
Boston Globe follows up on Gannongate
The newspaper that got it all started tries to explain away Gannongate as
some kind of aberration. It rightly criticizes the liberal blogosphere
for what was a political takedown, but tries to undermine all internet
journalism at the same time. The Paper of Kerry also calls my work
pseudojournalism without any reflection on its own reporting, particularly on
Gannongate.
It was the Globe that virtually published a press release from Media Matters
about me shortly after I asked "The Question." They were so
intent on getting my side of the story that the only question they asked me is
where I went to college. STORY

Michael, Michael, Michael - call me
I
feel badly for you Mr. Isikoff. When you interviewed me about Gannongate,
I found you to be genuine and respectful, interested in reporting the
truth. But I think it's time for you to expose those at Newsweek who are
pursuing an anti-Bush, anti-American agenda. It's destroying the
credibility of American journalism and putting our troops at greater risk.
You know how to contact me.
"Newsweek lied - people died!"
Don't expect to hear anyone marching through the streets protesting the
liberal magazine's erroneous report about a Q'uran being flushed down the
toilet by interrogators at Guantanamo. Now that Newsweek has retracted
the story, it won't be long until the Hard Left is criticizing it for caving in
to the Rove media manipulation machine.
I
doubt if we'll get a quote from the liberals' "go-to-guy" on
journalism, Edward
Wasserman, but it sure would be enlightening if not downright
entertaining. I wouldn't even expect a whitewash similar to the
"investigation" into Rathergate.
More on Conyers (pushing Slaughter for #1 Fool)
The new mantra of the Left is how the MSM it dominates isn't doing a good
job of reporting the news. It appears that Rep. John Conyers is competing

White House wants Newsweek retraction
Members of the Bush administration are livid over the Newsweek story that
touched off a wave of anti-American violence throughout the Muslim world.
The magazine admitted that its story was wrong, but has yet to retract
it. It's not surprising that there has been little in-depth reporting
about this egregious episode or howls of protest from the journalism
community. There was far more of a brouhaha over "The Question"
that started Gannongate. STORY

Lunacy on the Left

Blogger ethics
The very sensible Howard Kurtz writes in the Washington Post about blogger
ethics. He makes some good points except that the corrupt Old Media has
no moral basis for judging anyone's ethical behavior.
The blogosphere is like the Wild West - no rules. No accountability
either - well, not yet at least...

Oh Helen!
Helen Thomas, the doyenne of the White House press corps has taken a break from Bush-bashing to
fire a shot at me in her latest column. Instead of
launching broadsides against me herself, the cagey octogenarian quotes others who have lined up in recent weeks to
criticize everything about me from my reporting to my choice of ties.
Thomas points out that Edward Wasserman, a professor of journalism at Washington & Lee University, has determined that I am a propagandist because I
reported exactly what the White House said about its position on an issue without putting a spin on it. I would suggest you look at his work to see why he is the liberals' "go-to guy" on questions of journalism. He
spouts typical liberal gibberish about the Bush administration and the media
but fails to recognize that he is one of the elites who is losing the exclusive
franchise on American journalism.
My former colleague concludes her column with the assertion that most newspapers are still "devoted to delivering impartial news stories." I wonder if she has read a newspaper lately.

I'm soooo international!
It looks like Gannon has gone global, being mentioned in an editorial
on Aljazeera.info. It's interesting is to see who the contributors
to the site are. How many of them do you think are on the Homeland Security "no-fly list'?

Loathsome vs. self-loathing
The readers of media gossip Garrett Graff's blog
have expressed outrage that I have not been included in some liberal's list of
the "50 Most Loathsome DCers."
Compare that to Bill Clinton's assessment of a fellow
that has decided to make sure that Hillary never wins the White House.
Isn't it amazing that members of the party that relies so heavily on the

Peace-loving liberal thugs

In the green room that morning, one of the panelists suggested that if an

Misguided attackers be advised: I know how to defend myself and I
guarantee you'll regret finding out how good at it I am.
With friends like these...
David Corn, of the ultra-liberal Nation magazine objects to me having
evoked his name during Friday's National Press Club panel. While he
hyperventilates over my characterization of his performance at a White House
briefing, the point remains that David, a very partisan journalist was admitted
on a "day pass." When the author of "The Lies of George W.
Bush" subsequently engaged in very partisan questioning, not a single
person, including me, objected to his presence. STORY
But I really think he's more upset about all of the criticism he after I
referred to him as "my good friend." Sometimes it
doesn't pay to be nice to people.

National Press Club panel recap
I was privileged to be included in the NPC panel discussion on the subject
of "Who is a journalist?" Some very important issues were
raised and I was pleased to be able to comment on them. Of course, part
of the time was spent questioning me, which I welcomed, since I rarely get a
chance to answer questions on live television.
Unfortunately, at the conclusion of the event, an activist created such a
spectacle that I left the room immediately with security. Otherwise, I
would have remained to talk to members of the press. As I was boarding an
elevator to exit the building, this same person made a dash for me with unknown
intent. I have been informed that he subsequently had an altercation with
a member of building security and has been banned from the premises. If
you saw this person's behavior, you would realize that the threats against my
person, property and family have not been exaggerated.
Upon reflection of the discussion, I wanted to provide context for some of my
answers that may have been unclear:
Armstrong Williams - I was in no way defending this practice, since I
believe it is wrong to pay journalists to write favorable articles. It is
PR, plain and simple and journalists have no business being involved in such
activities. But I also made several other points:
1. The Bush administration didn't originate this practice. It was
done by the previous administration and caused nary a ripple.
2. I was also speaking to how the debate over the No Child Left Behind
Act is dominated by DNC rhetoric and NEA talking points. One of those
points is that NCLB is "underfunded." The truth is, $6 billion
in funds remain unspent. There's much more to the debate that rarely
breaks through the filter.
Fox News - "I really don't consider Fox News to be
conservative." Two points here:
1. Fox is closer to the middle in terms of stories covered, much to the
dismay of its conservative viewers. They'd like more stories about
judicial nominees, pro-life issues, tax reform, education, religion and
immigration. Fox doesn't really stray too far from the herd in topics,
but it certainly approaches them from the right.
2. Media establishment types like to cast Fox as conservative but would
never describe CBS and CNN as liberal. That is simply dishonest.

get a fair reporting of its policies in the mainstream media. But the

fronts for political operatives. STORY

news', that is the phony documents CBS used to influence the election.

Current
Column
Fear and Loathing in the Press Room
For the last two years, the Old Media figures at the White House thought
of me as a gadfly, a right-winger with an agenda, harmless, someone to be
ignored. From time to time
there were grumbles among some of the reporters and one or two
confrontations, but there was never a serious attempt to remove me from
their midst. During my tenure
I developed some good friends there who welcomed the refreshing
perspective I brought to the briefings and respected my courage for asking
the questions that I did. MORE

Today's
Briefing Question
While I am on hiatus from the White House briefing room, I'm going to post
the question I would have asked had I been there. It will be
interesting to see if anyone else asks it.
June 2, 2005
"If Mark Felt is to be considered a hero, shouldn't we also praise
Brett Cavanaugh, Linda Tripp and Gary Aldrich?"
June 1, 2005
"Would you comment on the results of the lie detector test I took to
prove that I am not a Bush administration plant?"
May 31, 2005
Presidential Press Conference
"The deal Sen. McCain made with Democrats appears to have thrown
several of your judicial nominees overboard and more or less demanded
prior consultation with the Senate before you submit nominations. Do
you believe the Senate is encroaching on your constitutional prerogative?"
May 25, 2005
"Would you comment on the media's relentless obsession with alleged
desecration of the Koran when we have already seen the impact these
reports, true or untrue have on the Arab world?"
May 24, 2005
"Is the President angry with Republican senators for striking a deal
with Democrats that essentially throw several of his nominees
overboard?"
May 23, 2005
"Do you agree with White House correspondent Terry Moran's assertion
that some reporters in the briefing room actually 'hate' President
Bush?"
May 18, 2005
"What further steps are you suggesting Newsweek and its parent
company, the Washington Post take to rectify the damage done by its
erroneous reporting?"
May 17, 2005
Because
Newsweek got its facts wrong the
White House rightly demanded and received a retraction from the magazine
regarding its story on the desecration of the Koran at a
US
detention camp. Is this episode more egregious than Rathergate
because people died or less so because CBS never retracted its story?
April 13, 2005
"The Senate has brought only one judicial nominee to the floor so far
this year. At this rate, only four judicial vacancies will be filled
in 2005. Are you satisfied with that number?"
April 12, 2005
"How does trading land for peace work without a guarantee of
security?"
NOT ASKED
April 7, 2005
"Democratic Senators Hillary Clinton and Patty Murray announced they
would hold up the President's FDA nominee until the agency allows
the abortion pill, to be sold over-the-counter. Would you comment on
what appears to be another example of the tyranny of a radical
minority?"
April 6, 2005
"Why was former President Gerald Ford excluded from the delegation
attending the funeral for Pope John Paul II?"
NOT ASKED
April 4, 2005
"It has been announced that President Bush will attend the funeral of
Pope John Paul II. Why will he do something like this that had no
precedent?"
NOT ASKED
March 30, 2005
"Congressional Democrats are putting together a proposal for Social
Security reform. Does the President now believe he is winning on
this issue since only two months ago, Democratic leadership was adamantly
opposed to any changes in the retirement program?"
NOT ASKED
March 29, 2005
"Fifty-nine former diplomats have written to Richard Lugar, chairman
of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations committee in opposition to the
President's nomination of John Bolton to be Ambassador to the UN. Is
the administration rethinking the pick, and if not, why not?"
NOT ASKED
March 28, 2005
"I saw the menu for the President's Easter dinner. Does he know
that Terri Schiavo had nothing to eat or drink yesterday and for the last
10 days?"
DEFINITELY NOT ASKED, but you know I would have.
March 25, 2005
"Why did the President call citizens who are monitoring the southern
border 'vigilantes' when it is clear that border patrols are unable to
stem the tide of illegal immigrants and possibly terrorists that stream
into the United States from Mexico? Don't you see this as a national
security imperative?"
NOT ASKED
March 24, 2005
"While the Bush administration is promoting democracy in the greater
Middle East, Latin America has taken a turn toward authoritarian
rule. What policy changes are to be expected to deal with Castro's
influence in the region?"
NOT ASKED
March 23, 2005
"A government report says that a detainee at Guantanamo claims to
have helped Osama bin Laden escape coalition forces at Tora Bora.
Should we accept this to be factual when critics of our interrogation
techniques say that information obtained in this manner is coerced
and unreliable?"
NOT ASKED
March 22, 2005
"Now that a Florida judge has ruled that Terri Schiavo can be killed
by her husband by starvation and dehydration, will you issue an Executive
Order to save her life?"
NOT ASKED
March 21, 2005
"UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has announced sweeping changes in
the way the United Nations conducts its affairs. How much of this
comes at the insistence of the Bush administration?"
NOT ASKED
March 18, 2005
"Antiwar activists will be protesting the war in Iraq outside the
gates of Ft. Bragg. How does the Commander-in-Chief view this kind
of activity specifically directed at our troops and their families?"
NOT ASKED
March 17, 2005
"Scott Peterson was sentenced to death Wednesday for the murders of
his wife Laci and son Conner. Would you comment on that?"
NOT ASKED. But ABC's Terry Moran asked my 3/11 question about
Terri Schiavo. Well done. Somebody named Jessica suggested
that the President's support for Terri might set a precedent for
"federal intervention into a matter already decided by a state
court."
There are so many examples of this happening in the past that it boggles
the mind. After all, the Left DEPENDS on the federal government to
usurp powers that should be reserved to the states. And when it
can't win at the ballot box or in Congress, it looks for an activist judge
to make it happen.
March 16, 2005
"Does the White House want greater powers to more thoroughly
investigate any and all journalists that ask to attend press
briefings?"
NOT ASKED.
March 15, 2005
"Please comment on Monday's ruling by a California judge that
declared that state's ban on gay marriage to be unconstitutional.
How does that square with the President's position on the issue?"
NOT ASKED.
March 14, 2005
"On Sunday, the New York Times reported that weapons sites were
looted in the weeks following the invasion of Iraq. If there were no
WMDs and the regime posed no threat as the media continues to emphasize,
isn't this an insignificant revelation?"
NOT ASKED. NO SURPRISE HERE.
March 11, 2005
"Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged woman in Florida is due to be starved
to death now that a judge will allow her husband to remove the feeding
tube that has been keeping her alive. The President's brother, Gov. Jeb
Bush has been trying to prevent this from happening. The President
has the absolute power to grant pardons. Will he intervene to save
Terri Schiavo from what is essentially a death sentence?"
NOT EVEN CLOSE
March 9, 2005
“House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi recently said,
"President Bush and the Republicans have created a record deficit and
are raiding the Social Security trust fund to make up for it."
How do you respond to that rhetoric?
NOT ASKED
March 8, 2005
"Has the White House had any conversations with or given any
directions to United Nations Ambassador-designate John Bolton to demand a
full accounting of the Oil-for-food program and an investigation into the
sexual misconduct of UN peacekeepers in the Congo and elsewhere?"
NOT ASKED
March 7, 2005
"In 1999, Sen. Harry Reid said, 'Most of us have no problem with taking
a small amount of the Social Security proceeds and putting it into the private
sector.' On Saturday, he said that he would not negotiate with the
White House on Social Security until 'privatization' was taken off the
table. Are you hoping to convince the Senate Minority Leader once
again change his position and support the concept of personal savings
accounts for Social Security?"
REID SKATES AGAIN
March 4, 2005
"On CNN Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called Fed
Chairman Alan Greenspan 'one of the biggest political hacks we have in
Washington.' Does the White House agree or disagree with Reid's
opinion?"
IT IS AS IF IT NEVER
HAPPENED, but we did get this "unbiased" question: "Scott,
those surveys that you mentioned a couple of times also show the more the
President talks, the less Americans seem to trust him on the issue of
Social Security, and the less they like the notion of private or personal
accounts. What accounts for
that?
"
March 3, 2005
"Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan told members of Congress on Wednesday that the
U.S. economy is growing at a "reasonably good pace" and
recommended that budget deficits be fixed through spending cuts instead of
tax increases. Does the White House consider this an endorsement of
its fiscal policies as opposed to Democrats who still want to roll back
the Bush tax cuts?"
NOT EVEN CLOSE - It looks as if continued job growth and a
strengthening economy will go unreported until the Old Media can make it
look like it would have happened anyway or find a way to give Democrats
credit for it.
March 2, 2005
"West Virginia Democratic Senator Robert Byrd took to the Senate
floor Tuesday and likened Republicans' efforts to get an up or down vote
for the President's judicial nominees to the fascism of Nazi
Germany. Would you comment on those remarks?"
NOT ASKED
