From My Cold Dead Hands

The District of Columbia has announced its new policy regarding private ownership of weapons in the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision in D.C. v. Heller. However, either the rulers of the socialist utopia cannont read and comprehend the high court's ruling or they intend to deprive residents of the nation's capital of their Second Amendment rights.

According to The Washington Post, "Gun owners will have to pass vision and written tests, provide a photo with their application to register a gun, and submit their weapon for ballistics testing. Guns will also still require trigger locks."

While these might sound like reasonable requirements, the intent of city officials is clear. The Washington Post noted, "(City Attorney) Nickles had argued that the city should do its best to maintain trigger locks and a strict interpretation of the high court's decision."

The point is that the despots in Washington, DC are actively seeking to impede the constitutional rights of the citizeny. The Heller decision affirmed the individual right to own a firearm and ruled that trigger lock requirements are unconstitutional.

I am a U.S. citizen and a resident of the District of Columbia. As of this posting, I am asserting my constitutional right to possess a handgun, semi-automatic, fully assmebled and without a trigger lock for the purpose of self-defense.

Come and get me. See you in court. "From my cold dead hands..."

Terrorist Surveillance Freed FARC Hostages

The Associated Press is reporting that the intelligence program reviled by the Left as a threat to civil liberties and cited as evidence by more than a few elected Democrats of the Bush Administration's criminal activities resulted in the stunning rescue of American hostages in Colombia. Back in 2003, U.S. intelligence listened in on a telephone conversation between FARC rebels and sympathizers in Miami following the capture of American counterterrorism agents. Information gained through the application of the once-classified program (revealed courtesy of The New York Times) led to the recent extraction of the Americans.

No American grandmothers were surveilled in connection with this case.

Washington Post v. Heller

The Washington Post, one of the leading proponents of gun control, is apoplectic over the recent Supreme Court decision affirming an individual right to possess a weapon that declared the District of Columbia gun ban unconstitutional. The newspaper's reporters and columnists are taking turns criticizing the Second Amendment ruling, hoping to convince the cowed citizenry in the murder capital of the United States that it should acquiece to restrictive regulations now being developed.

Courtland Milloy has a clever column, Killer Ideas For Selling Guns in D.C. , in which the writer suggests names for gun shops. Clearly, Milloy is a gun-control advocate, but his piece is witty. So much in fact, that I had to write him:

Congratulations on a very clever column. I'm a ten-year resident of the District of Columbia and I must say that, “for the first time in my adult lifetime I am really proud of my city. And not just because the Supreme Court has done well, but because I think people are hungry for self-defense.”

Leftists Angered By Obama's Progress To Center

The left-wingers who propelled Barack Obama to the Democratic presidential nomination are growing increasingly angry now that their chosen "messiah" has thrown them under the bus in order to widen his appeal to the general electorate. Sen. Obama, one of the most liberal Democrats to ever lead the party is tacking toward the center, abandoning extreme positions on gun control, FISA, telecom immunity and troop withdrawals among others. In a speech about patriotism, Obama chastized the radical MoveOn.org for the "General Betray-us" ad the group ran last year. Yesterday, Obama angered the secularists when he declared his intention to expand Bush's faith based initiatives program.

Guns and Bitter

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. - Second Amendment to the U. S. Constitution

The aftermath of the Supreme Court’s historic affirmation of an individual’s right to bear arms illustrates the philosophical divide between the Left and Right, Conservative and Liberal. Liberals believe that rights emanate from the government while conservatives hold that the individual has inherent rights.

When the Founding Fathers established America’s representative democracy the world was just beginning to emerge from the feudal and monarchic traditions that for centuries enslaved the individual. Following the adoption of the federal constitution, the Bill of Rights was added to restrain the new government from infringing on the rights of individuals.

The First Amendment guarantees the rights of individuals to speak, write, worship and assemble without government interference, but liberals argue that the Second Amendment protects only a collective right to bear arms. That contradiction was evident to a majority of the Justices and now the issue is settled law.

Justice Antonin Scalia wrote:

"As the quotations earlier in this opinion demonstrate, the inherent right of self-defense has been central to the Second Amendment right. The handgun ban amounts to a prohibition of an entire class of 'arms' that is overwhelmingly chosen by American society for that lawful purpose. The prohibition extends, moreover, to the home, where the need for defense of self, family and property is most acute. Under any of the standards of scrutiny that we have applied to enumerated constitutional rights, banning from the home 'the most preferred firearm in the nation to keep and use for protection of one's home and family,' would fail constitutional muster."

Earlier this year, Barack Obama displayed his elitism by commenting that “bitter” Americans cling to their guns and God. After the ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller, it is the elitists who are bitter. Justice John Paul Stevens incredulously declared that “a new constitutional right” was created and Stephen Breyer wrote that the majority opinion was “wrong.”

Liberal politicians and pundits whined about their defeat. A Washington Post editorial typified the gnashing of teeth, referring to the ruling as “misguided” and “deeply disappointing.” Such a reaction is not surprising. However, what is more enlightening is this tidbit:

“Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority, concluded that the amendment guarantees a right to bear arms for private use, such as self-defense, although nowhere is that explicitly mentioned in the Constitution.”

This is where the illogical nature of liberalism becomes clear. There can be no individual right to bear arms because it is not “explicitly mentioned” in the Constitution. Please tell me where the right to abortion is “explicitly mentioned” in the Constitution.

The argument here is not about guns per se, it is about the origin of rights. The liberal worldview invests ultimate power in government while conservatives cling to the supremacy of the individual. The concept of “consent of the governed” is lost on liberals, but it is the only principle that saves us from tyranny.

SCOTUS Affirms Individual Gun Rights

The United States Supreme Court dealt a serious blow to gun-grabbing liberals today by affirming an individual's right to bear arms. In District of Columbia v. Heller, the high court recognized the Founding Fathers' intent that a person has a constitutional right to own a gun under the Second Amendment.

As a resident of the socialist uptopia of Washington, DC, one of the murder capitals of the United States I am pleased to know that I can now legally possess the means with which to defend myself, my family and my property.

Yes, Barack, I cling to my gun and my God - but I'm not the bitter one. I'll bet the Gang of Four SCOTUS liberals and the gun-grabbers are bitter today over George W. Bush's legacy of the Roberts Court.

As of today, in the absence of an enforcable prohibition, I am exercising my INDIVIDUAL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to own a handgun, fully assembled and without a trigger lock.

From my cold, dead hands...

DC Gun Ban Ruling Will Aid McCain, GOP

Conventional “wisdom” suggests that the current political environment favors Democrats in 2008. The long Democratic primary between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama kept the focus on the candidates and away from the issues. Except for the broad themes of “hope” and “change” few Obama supporters can name a single position articulated by the Illinois senator.

However, certain events may inject issues into the electoral debate that help John McCain and the Republicans. High gasoline prices have changed the dynamics of the national campaign, shifting public opinion toward offshore drilling and blaming Democrats for obstructing efforts to increase domestic energy production.

Similarly, the undeniable success of the troop surge in Iraq and the political progress that is taking place as a result benefits McCain. The presumptive Republican nominee can claim that he was right all along and that Obama and the Democrats are defeatists and should not be trusted with national security matters.

Any day now, the U. S. Supreme Court will issue a ruling in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, that challenges that city’s total ban on private ownership handguns. No matter what decision is rendered by the high court, McCain and the Republicans will gain an advantage by simply having gun rights discussed during the campaign. Democrats understand that Second Amendment issues are a certain losers for them, which accounts for nearly 70 them in Congress signing onto the amicus brief filed by Vice President Dick Cheney and their Republican colleagues to support striking down the ban.

Should the Supremes affirm that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of an individual to own a firearm, McCain only needs to praise the decision in order to increase his standing among skittish conservatives. If the liberals on the high court win the day, McCain can disagree with them and gain the same advantage. Additionally, the Republican can point to judicial activism as he did in the Boumediene ruling that gave constitutional rights to terrorists held at Guantanamo Bay, another winning issue with conservatives.

Democrats are relying on fear mongering on the economy and the global warming hysteria to carry them to victory in November. However, it is quite possible that real issues might get in the way of that strategy.

NOTE: McCain joined the amicus brief, Obama did not.

McClellan's 75,000 Pieces of Silver

Once reviled by Democrats and liberals as untrustworthy and deceptive, Scott McClellan is now hailed as their hero. Tune in to Rep. John Conyer's Judiciary Committee for a display of leftist conspiracy theories contained in questions to the former White House Press Secretary.

McClellan received $75,000 from the George Soros-backed publisher to lend his name to his book of betrayal.

Lame Duck Bush Rolls Dems Again, Libs Aflame!

Democrats and the Old Media wrote President George W. Bush off long ago, but it appears that the "lame duck" is going to finish strong. Democrats took over Congress in 2006 promising they would pull troops out of Iraq and push through a long list of liberal legislation.

However, the "Accomplish-Nothing" Congress of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have failed to enact any key agenda item. This week has been a particularly bad week for the Democrats as President Bush chalked up wins on FISA, telecom immunity and Iraq War funding.

Next up is offshore oil drilling and Bush will likely win that one, too. Gas now costs over $4 per gallon and the Democrats will get the blame for standing in the way of developing the energy resources America desperately needs.

After the floor debate on FISA and telecom immunity, I listened to C-SPAN callers during the vote. The moonbats are howling, mostly at the 90 or so Democrats who voted for the bill.

Obama Unleashes Flying Monkeys

Last week, the campaign of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama announced that it had established a “war room” to battle rumors spread on the Internet and amplified by other media reporting. Obama supporters will use a website titled “Fight the Smears” to identify allegedly untrue statements about their candidate and provide evidence in an effort to refute them. That sounds like a good public relations strategy, but the implementation will ultimately have a negative impact on Obama.

The campaign employs the Media Matters for America model for dealing with so-called “smears.” In fact, Obama’s war room uses the George Soros-funded organization to discern “misinformation.” Then Obama’s “flying monkeys,” a reference to creatures from the children’s classic “Wizard of Oz”, attack the source or any media outlet, talk radio host, online discussion forum or blogger that makes reference to it.

Obama’s flying monkeys are targeting the National Press Club (of which I am a member) because a man named Larry Sinclair reserved a meeting room to hold a press conference on Wednesday, June 18. Earlier this year, Sinclair released a YouTube video in which he made claims about sharing sex and drugs with Barack Obama. A lefty blogger has circulated a petition and launched a telephone campaign urging the National Press Club not to allow Sinclair to speak there.

The charges do not sound credible, however the ferocity with which Obama’s flying monkeys are trying to silence Sinclair gives me pause. If this guy is a lunatic or liar as his critics say, what better forum to discredit him than before the Washington press corps?

Obama’s flying monkeys have flooded the National Press Club blogs with their typically vicious and obscene comments. This is the part that will ultimately damage Barack Obama. The candidate of “hope” and “change” cannot have his hateful minions ferociously attack anyone who criticizes him.

I have a great deal of experience with the Media Matters goon squad and its acolytes. Their vitriol is as caustic today as it was in January 2005 when I first asked “The Question.” There has been no limit to their smears, libel and slander.

Barack Obama may be a gentle man, but he has surrounded himself with questionable characters like corrupt developer Tony Rezko, racists Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Michael Pfleger, domestic terrorist William Ayers and terrorist-supporting Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans, to name just a few.

The Founding Fathers thought freedom of speech was so important that they enshrined it in the First Amendment. To the Left however, free speech is only for those who share its point of view. Anyone who disagrees, the Left seeks to silence through speech codes or intimidation.

America is going to get a close-up view of how those on the Left view the basic freedoms they claim to cherish courtesy of Obama’s flying monkeys.

Bill and Hill's Enemies List

Now that the liberal Old Media has become amost totally "Obamanized" a plethora of negative stories about the Clintons have started to emerge. The International Herald Tribune, the global edition of The New York Times reports that the former First Couple have a list of those who crossed or betrayed them in their quest to return to the White House.

While I doubt that I am still on the Clintons' enemies list, I certainly was at Number One with a bullet in January 2005 when I asked "The Question" during a nationally-televised presidential press conference:

Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. Harry Reid was talking about soup lines and Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet in the same breath they say that Social Security is rock solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work -- you've said you are going to reach out to these people -- how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?

Within hours, Hillary Clinton's thugs from Media Matters issued a press release attacking me. The rest of the story can be read in my book, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report".

McClellan's Lawyer Defended Lynne Stewart

Agrees To Testify Against Cheney About Plame

So much for Scott McClellan's claims to move beyond the partisanship of Washington. The former White House Press Secretary has agreed to tesify about the disclosure of Valerie Plame's identity before Democratic Rep. John Conyers' House Judiciary Committee.

Sadly, it now appears that Scott is less of "useful idiot" than a closet liberal. The Associated Press identifies McClellan's legal team as Michael and Jane Tigar.

Michal Tigar represented terrorist sympathizer lawyer Lynne Stewart, who served prison time after being convicted of assisting her client Sheikh Omar Abdul-Rahman, also known as "The Blind Sheikh." Rahman was convicted of plotting the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.

Michal Tigar has an interesting self interview about being Lynne Stewart's attorney.

A few of Tigar's clients:

Chicago Eight defendants
Seattle Eight defendants
H. Rap Brown
Angela Davis
Cesar Chavez's son Fernando
Chicano Peace Movement leader Rosalio Muñoz

Cheney Slams McClellan

I just got back from a luncheon at the National Press Club (of which I am a member) that featured Vice President Dick Cheney as the keynote speaker. Of course, most of the questions concerned Scott McClellan's diary of discontent. Cheney did not offer any opinions of his own about the new liberal hero and his book, but simply said, "I thought Bob Dole got it about right."

Dole wrote (from Politico.com):

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don’t have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in a message sent yesterday morning. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits and, spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."

(snip)

"In my nearly 36 years of public service I've known of a few like you," Dole writes, recounting his years representing Kansas in the House and Senate. "No doubt you will 'clean up' as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm. When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me.' Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years"

Dole assures McClellan that he won't read the book — "because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high-profile job."

"That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively," Dole concludes. "You’re a hot ticket now, but don’t you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"

Smearing Scott McClellan

Only the Left Could Think Silence is a Smear

Last week I commented on the controversy surrounding a book published under the name of former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. Current and former Bush administration officials expressed surprise and confusion at McClellan’s claims and the tone with which the book was written. Most agreed that McClellan’s diatribe was out of character with the man they knew. I included myself among those who were astonished by some of McClellan’s assertions and bitterness. Not one time during my two years of working with McClellan did I hear from him or anyone else that he harbored such grave misgivings.

In a posting about McClellan I wrote:

“What I hear about the book does not sound like the Scott McClellan I knew for two years. I can say without fear of contradiction, that I knew Scott better than any other White House correspondent or Washington reporter.”

That statement generated something of a buzz in the left-wing blogosphere, especially among the Angry Gay Left. Some suggested that my “cryptic” declaration was part of a Rovian smear campaign against the turncoat McClellan. In several radio interviews I explained my relationship with McClellan, but that did little to satisfy the rabid liberals. Because I refused to speculate about McClellan’s personal life, the conspiracy-minded leftists accused me of smearing him with my silence.

The same people that have waged a smear campaign against me since January 2005 when I asked “The Question” and sometimes Scott McClellan have now determined that I am smearing Scott McClellan because I will not say anything about his personal life. This is the tortured logic of the Angry Gay Left.

For the record, my claim to know Scott McClellan better than any other White House correspondent of Washington reporter comes from the fact that when I first started covering the White House, Ari Fleischer was the Press Secretary. Scott was one of the deputies.

For those who don’t know how the press office is laid out, the deputy press secretaries and the other staffers work in the lower press office located behind the podium. The Press Secretary occupies an office up one level on the other side of a Secret Service checkpoint since it is in the West Wing.

While other reporters went directly to Ari for information and quotes, it was easier for me to get what I needed from Scott or the other deputy press secretary. None of the other correspondents bothered with Scott, so I developed a friendly working relationship with him. As any good reporter would, I cultivated Scott as a source. When Ari left and Scott took over as Press Secretary, I was in good stead to continue my work as the first exclusively online journalist to cover the White House on a daily basis.

Such a logical explanation escapes the illogical left.

Barry, Please Pick Tommy

With Sen. Barack Obama closing in on the Democratic presidential nomination, the puditocracy is atwitter with speculation about the Number Two spot. Despite the wide variety of names mentioned as a potential running mate, the prevailing opinion is that the inexperienced, gaffe-prone, effete, radical leftist needs someone to balance the ticket. The problem is that Obama will have to choose among Democrats. The Democratic Party of today that makes Joe Lieberman appear to be a right-wing fanatic is a bit thin in the kind of candidate that will appeal to the voters Obama repulses.

Of course, an Obama-Clinton "dream ticket" that Doris Kerns Goodwin just about had an orgasm over on MSNBC Tuesday, is a personal favorite for the entertainment value alone. Imagine Barry, Michelle, Hillary and Bill together on the campaign trail. However, Hillary might have damaged her chances for Veep with her wishful historical musing about the assassination of a presidential candidate.

One name that popped up in the discussion of Obama's running mate caused an expulsion of the adult beverage I was enjoying at the time: Tom Daschle. As many who followed my reporting in 2003 and 2004 or read my book, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report" already know, my investigative series on Tom Daschle's political machine and its ties to South Dakota's largest newspaper, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader contributed to the Senate Minority Leader's re-election defeat.

Except for the speaking skills and the ebony coating on the outside, Daschle is a duplicate of Obama. I'm certain the pundits are thinking that Daschle can deliver a red state for Obama (he can't, since he couldn't even deliver it for himself) and that Daschle provides the experience that Obama lacks (having made the case for war with Iraq in 1998 will be a hilarious trip down memory lane.) That campaign would be fun for me since Daschle comes with a wife who is a high-powered lobbyist who got that way because she was married to the most powerful man in the United States Senate. Along with blatant ageism, McCain's relationship to lobbyists is the key to the Democratic National Committee's strategy to defeat the Arizona Republican.

Tom Daschle is a loser. I'd say he has half a chance to be Obama's second.

Wright Questions, Wrong Conclusions

Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club may stand as the pivotal moment in the 2008 presidential elections. The controversial pastor of a church that Barack Obama attended for 20 years unleashed a torrent of preposterous statements in response to questions from the national press that perhaps doomed his congregant’s candidacy.

Before an audience stacked with supporters and about one dozen noted leftist radicals, Wright professed support for the anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and reiterated his belief that the U.S. government created the AIDS virus to exterminate blacks. He bashed Vice President Dick Cheney for not having served in the military and sending young men and women to “die for a lie.” Wright criticized Oliver North for aiding the Contras against the pro-Communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua more than two decades ago.

Wright ranted at the press for having the temerity to query him and several times disrespected the “white girl,” NPC Vice President Donna Leinwand who read the questions. Wright’s “audacity of hate” diatribe sent shockwaves across the political landscape.

New York Daily News writer Errol Lewis perceived Wright’s performance so damaging to Obama that he suggested the National Press Club conspired to derail the Illinois senator’s campaign. He posited that Speakers Committee member Rev. Dr. Barbara Reynolds, a Hillary Clinton supporter hoped to help her choice by giving Wright a platform to spout his divisive “black liberation theology.”

Such an assertion is nonsense and an insult to the National Press Club and its membership. NPC’s core mission is to promote the free press and facilitate access to elected officials, public policy makers and other influential figures. Rev. Wright certainly qualifies as such a person. In the national spotlight given to him, Wright produced an abundance of valuable information for substance-starved political news consumers.

The National Press Club should do more events of this nature, regardless of the outcome. While I bristled when serial liars Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame received a hero’s welcome at the Club, at least the working press had a chance to question them, however uncritically it did so. I strongly believe that every President of the United States should address the Club each year. It would probably provide a fairer forum than that the ideologically homogenous White House Press Corps.

The venerable National Press Club, now celebrating its centennial has clearly demonstrated why it endures. Even in a rapidly changing media universe, the basic journalism equation remains the same: asking questions and getting answers.

With Rev. Wright, “mission accomplished!”

NYT Spinning Wright Away From Obama

Barack Obama's Manhattan campaign office, located in the newsroom of The New York Times, is spinning Rev. Jeremiah Wright's incendiary comments at the National Press Club away from the Illinois senator. The headline says it all: Not Speaking for Obama, Pastor Speaks for Himself, at Length.

Left Charges Old Media Political Manipulation

In my book, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report", I predicted that the rapidly changing media environment would significantly impact the 2008 election. I wrote that in 2006, the Old Media dropped any pretense of objectivity, both cheerleading for the Democrats and obsessing on negative stories about Republicans, particularly the Mark Foley text messages and George Allen's "macaca" gaffe.

During the election cycle thus far, the Old Media started out carrying Hillary Clinton on their shoulders down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. However, somewhere along the way, another candidate came along that sent "tingles down the legs" of enough of the media elites to cause a split in the Old Media. Without the collective mindset to guide the direction of their political coverage, liberal journalists have turned on each other on behalf of their favorites.

One writer is suggesting that Monday's breakfast at the National Press Club (which as a member I attended) was a set-up by a Hillary Clinton-supporting journalist to damage Barack Obama. Let me repeat: One liberal journalist is calling out another liberal journalist for playing politics.

While those one the right, including me have been complaining about political media bias for some time, this is the first instance of liberal media elites making the claims and doing it against one of their own.

This is a new day indeed!

Rev. Wright Confirms All That We Knew

The spinners of the Obama campaign and the Illinois senator's Old Media sycophants that have been trying to convince Americans that the remarks of Rev. Jeremiah Wright have been misquoted or taken out of context are probably going to get drunk tonight if they have not already done so. Many of them sat with dropped jaw this morning as they watched Barack Obama's former pastor repeat the outrageous claims made in several sermons over the past few years.

Flanked by bodyguards on loan from Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam, Rev. Wright played to a packed and stacked audience at the National Press Club. I hosted an Christian evangelical pastor at the breakfast, both of us hoping to hear Rev. Wright clear up the misunderstanding of his words that sounded so hateful and anti-American.

Instead, the Washington press corps and by the end of the day most interested Americans will have heard Rev. Wright confirm and defend his "controversial" statements and do it in an angry and arrogant manner. Perhaps the first clue to how the event would play out was when I spotted Cornell West, a black radical. Later on I would read from Dana Milbank's reporting in The Washington Post that Wright's guests included Marion Barry, Malik Zulu Shabazz of the New Black Panther Party and Nation of Islam official Jamil Muhammad.

Because I am a creature of Washington, I was only mildly offended at Rev. Wright's remarks. Much of America, however, will be shocked at the hateful bigotry coming out of the mouth of Obama's "spiritual mentor." At minimum, sensible people will be appalled at the rude treatment of National Press Club Vice President Donna Leinwand, attacked by Rev. Wright for reading questions submitted to the podium by members of the press.

Wright espoused "reconciliation" between the races, but stoked racial anger and rage. He reiterated that the United States brought 9/11 on itself and that the government created the AIDS virus to kill the black race. Oddly enough, Wright failed to mention Planned Parenthood, an organization established by eugenicist Margaret Sanger expressly for the purpose of black genocide.

Rev. Wright did not necessarily sink Obama's White House hopes, but he did not help them, either. The recent press tour that Rev. Wright has been doing will keep the focus on Obama's ties to radicals, only a handful that have been discussed by the press. There are many of them lurking out there, waiting for a turn in the spotlight. Next up: Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans, a fundraiser for Obama (and Iraqi insurgents.) I wrote about it sometime ago, but the Old Media might catch up with the New Media at some point before November.

ABC Can't Find Military McCain Supporter in Iraq

Members of the military are prohibited from engaging in political activity, but ABC News convinced a few soldiers in Iraq to go before the cameras to discuss their choices for president. It is well known that the troops generally support Republicans because of their pro-military credentials, which is the reason Al Gore tried to have ballots from overseas military bases disqualified during the 2000 recount. However, Martha Raddatz could not find a single soldier who supported Sen. John McCain, a Vietnam War veteran for Commander in Chief. Most of those Raddatz interviewed backed Sen. Barack Obama with one favoring Sen. Hillary Clinton and a few undecideds.

Equally revealing was the that issues most inportant to the soldiers were education, the economy, the environment and fear of war with Iran. None of those interviewed mentioned completing the mission or national security.

ABC News is suggesting that the military is against the war in Iraq and back the most antiwar candidate seeking the nomination. It is likely that when patriots saw the liberal Raddatz and her camera crew coming, they went in the opposite direction.

abc_raddatz_080407_mn.jpg

The headline says it all: "Surprising Political Endorsements By U.S. Troops". It is not a surprise that ABC News would produce such a biased piece and try to pass it off as news. Raddatz should get a Pulitizer Prize for investigative reporting since she probably really had to talk to alot of soldiers to find that many Obama supporters.

Liberals Give Out 'Liars' Awards'

Radical liberal elites gather at the National Press Club on Thursday to honor other liberal radical elites who have distinguished themselves in disservice to America. The Nation Institute gives out "Ridenhour Prizes" in memory of Ron Ridenhour, a "journalist" who brought the My Lai "massacre" to the attention of the world during the Vietnam War and helped to establish the liberal template of the American soldier as a mass murderer.

This years' "Courage Prize" goes to Bill Moyers, a liberal icon who established state-financed media that includes NPR and PBS. Past recipients: Jimmy Carter, Gloria Steinem, Seymour Hersh and Daniel Ellsberg.

The 2008 "Truth-Telling" award winner is Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Diaz, a former JAG officer who leaked a list of names of Guantanamo Bay terror detainees to the Center for Constitutional Rights, a group of radical lawyers who provide aid and comfort to America's enemies.

A previous recipient of the "Truth-Telling" prize is former Ambassador Joe Wilson. The Nation Institute bestowed the award before the Senate Intelligence Committee determined Wilson to be a liar. However, such an inconvenient fact is no cause for concern among liberals.

Liars seem to be attracted to each other. Last week, Joe Wilson appeared with Sen. Hillary Clinton at a campaign event in Pittsburgh. John Kerry dropped Wilson as a senior advisor following the SIC report, but the truth-challenged Mrs. Clinton seems to be willing to overlook such a minor character flaw.

Fonda Puts Kiss of Death Endorsement on Obama

Antiwar activist Jane Fonda is endorsing Barack Obama for President. It should come as no suprise that the woman who provided aid and comfort to the Viet Cong while John McCain was being tortured in a North Vietnamese prison camp is backing a man whose "spiritual leader" hates America. Fonda tried to help John "War Hero to the North Vietnamese" Kerry win the White House in 2004 with her "Vagina Voices" get-out-the-vote campaign.

With Fonda's endorsement, torch has passed to a new generation of the "hate America" crowd.

Saddam's Three Stooges

If you're a murderous tyrant who used chemical weapons against your own people, defied over a dozen United Nations sanctions to disarm and allow inspectors to verify that you no longer have weapons of mass destruction or the ability to produce them, supported terrorists who attacked neighboring countries, shot at airplanes enforcing a "no-fly" zone and were facing an American-led invasion force aimed at deposing you, who are you going to call?

_44517409_iraq_congressmen203bafp.jpg

If you're the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, you reached out to Democrats in the United States to plead your case on the world stage. In 2002, Saddam lured Democratic congressmen Jim McDermott, David Bonior and Mike Thompson to Baghdad to parrot his propaganda in an effort to forestall military action to enforce UN sanctions.

The plot involving the 'Three Stooges' was revealed during the indictment of Michigan Muslim activist Muthanna al-Hanooti for “conspiracy to act as an unregistered agent of a foreign government, illegally purchasing Iraqi oil, and lying to authorities.”

Ben Johnson has the details at FrontPageMagazine.com.

Are you surprised not to hear more about this story from the Old Media? Will there be an ethics investigation by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives into what these three very useful idiots knew about the man who paid for their trip to Iraq and when they knew it?

Hillary, You're No Jackie Kennedy!

Hillary Clinton is under fire for claiming that she was under fire during a 1996 visit to Bosnia. The former First Lady who wants to be Commander in Chief now says that she "misspoke" about sniper fire that forced the cancellation of a welcoming event. Recently, Mrs. Clinton has had to back off trying to parley her photo-ops around the globe and tea parties with world leaders into some kind of foreign policy resume. Now the New York Democrat has been forced to recant her claims of being in danger, allowing that she "misremembered" the incident.

Americans in general and Democrats in particular should be outraged by Clinton's big lie about being under sniper fire. The only First Lady that has ever been under sniper fire is Jackie Kennedy in 1963.

Hillary, you're no Jackie Kennedy!

Old Media Helps Kwame With Clinton Template

The Old Media is coming to the defense of another rising star in Democratic politics, this time Kwame Kilpatrick, the "Hip Hop Mayor" of Detroit. Reporting on the scandal mentions that the charges are for perjury and obstruction of justice, but over-emphasize that the lies Kilpatrick allegedly told in front of a grand jury were about SEX. Downplayed in the coverage is that the allegedly false testimony came during an investigation into the improper firing of employees. Following the announcement of his indictment, the mayor proclaimed innocence refused to resign.

The Old Media is placing the Bill Clinton template over the scandal. The mayor lied about sex, so that makes perjury and obstruction of justice excusable.

Perhaps if Scooter Libby had lied about having sex with Judith Miller, he might be a free man today.

Gun-Grabbing DC Police Chief Races Clock

The current leadership of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department is an exercise in political correctness that will likely become a national laughingstock. The hopes of beleaguered citizens of the District of Columbia were dashed at the appointment of Cathy Lanier to become chief of police following the departure of Charles Ramsey, derisively known at "Chief Wiggums". Ramsey presided over the crime wave on the National Mall and could not find the body of missing intern Chandra Levy for nearly two years until a man walking his dog in Rock Creek Park discovered a leg bone. Ramsey has moved on to work his magic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the new murder capital of the United States.

Lanier will make everyone forget about the cartoonish Ramsey with buffoonery attributable to putting a liberal in charge of enforcing the law and providing security.

During last week's antiwar protests to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion in Iraq, Lanier allowed the demonstrators to have free reign to wreak havoc in the downtown area. Police officers were ordered not to wear riot gear so as not to incite protesters to violence. Few demonstrators, if any were arrested by the MPD, despite obstructing traffic and incidents of vandalism. Police stood by as the "peaceniks" threw rocks and paint bombs at the military recruiting center at 14th & L Streets. The protesters were TWICE given clear passage in front of the recruiting center that was ransacked by antiwar activists several weeks ago.

Lanier's latest folly is to take a many guns as possible away from DC residents before the Supreme Court strikes down the city's total ban on handguns. In a Soviet-style sweep of the city, MPD officers are going house to house asking residents to submit to a voluntary search in exchange for "amnesty" from prosecution if a gun is found on the premises. This is how a totalitarian state would strip the people of their ability to defend themselves against tyranny.

Clinton’s ‘Willie Horton’ Campaign Against Obama

Democrats have been playing the race card against Republicans for decades, so it should come as no surprise that race has become an issue in a contest with a black candidate running for president. However, Hillary Clinton’s “Willie Horton” campaign against Barack Obama has shocked most Americans and broken open a wide rift in the Democratic Party.

For those who might not remember, during the 1988 presidential campaign, Republican George H. W. Bush ran ads against Democrat Michael Dukakis that featured the face of Willie Horton, an African-American man. While Dukakis was governor of Massachusetts, Horton, a convicted murderer, was given a weekend furlough from prison and went on a violent crime spree. The ads played on the fear that Obama recently ascribed to his grandmother, “a typical white woman.”

After losing in the South Carolina primary, Clinton launched the race campaign against Obama. Bill Clinton minimized Obama’s victory, suggesting that it was the result of blacks that make up half of Democratic voters casting ballots for the black candidate. He pointed out that Jesse Jackson, a rather divisive political figure, also won the South Carolina primary in 1984 and 1988.

Following Hillary Clinton’s strong showings in Ohio and Texas, the campaign pushed the videos of Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the media. Wright’s incendiary sermons be the subject of lengthy analysis in the six weeks until the Pennsylvania primary and erode Obama’s message of hope, change and unity. Moreover, it would cast doubt on Obama’s electability among the party leadership and superdelegates.

Obama’s speech, while hailed by the Old Media as historic, did not put the issue of race to rest. The Clintons have several more weapons they have yet to deploy against Obama about race. Obama has relationships with radicals like Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and Weather Underground member William Ayers that have so far not been examined.

By the time the Clintons get done, Barack Obama will become Willie Horton.

Obama: Everyone Racist But Jeremiah Wright

Sen. Barack Obama delivered a speech on race in America Tuesday before a friendly crowd in Philadelphia. Obama had hoped to stop his freefall in opinion polls caused by a reaction to the publicity surrounding the inflammatory sermons of his mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. The Illinois senator scored high on Chris Matthews' "tingle meter" evoking a comparison to Abraham Lincoln. Other gushing Old Media talking heads suggested oratory on par with Dr. Martin Luther King.

I'm going to go all Simon Cowell here and say that Obama's speech was rather average as oratory. It was simply not moving and inspirational. However, without the mesmerizing inflections and meter, I was able to focus more on the content. In doing so, I learned that:

1. Obama's white grandmother was a racist.
2. Ronald Reagan built his coalition on racism.
3. Racist white men would flock to vote for Republican John McCain in November if a black man was the Democratic presidential nominee.
4. Talk radio hosts and conservative pundits fanned the flames of racial division.

Obama insinuated that racism was everywhere in the United States, but none of it found at Trinity United Church of Christ, especially when it came to the preaching of Rev. Jeremiah "God damn America, AmeriKKK" Wright. He pointed to the Republican Party as racist, somehow overlooking the Democratic Party's long history of racism. The Democratic Party is the party of Jim Crow, Bull Connor, George Wallace and Robert Byrd.

Obama came nowhere near Martin Luther King on Tuesday. He barely rose to the level of Rodney King. In fact, if Obama had rebuked, repudiated and rejected Rev. Wright and struck a "Why can't we all get along?" theme, he would have put the issue of race behind him. Instead, Obama expanded the racial divide he had promised to bridge.

Peaceniks Riot At National Press Club

Members of anti-American, pro-terrorist groups Code Pink, Global Exchange and others staged a riot during a press conference at the National Press Club on Friday. I attended Friday's news event as a working journalist and a member of the National Press Club

codepink0314.jpg

The rabble disrupted a presentation by pro-victory organization Move America Forward (MAF) of its “Sedition Report” that detailed hundreds of attacks on military recruiting centers across the country. Prior to the melee, former radio talk show host Melanie Morgan and MAF Chairperson listed numerous instances of violence, vandalism and intimidation including:

- Bombing of Armed Services recruiting center in New York City’s Times Square
- Barricading and vandalizing U.S. Marine Corps recruiting center in Berkeley, CA
- Occupying and vandalizing Army recruiting center in Washington, DC
- Smashing doors and windows of Army recruiting center in Minneapolis, MN
- Smashing windows, throwing smoke bombs and spreading human excrement at Army recruiting center in Milwaukee, WI
- Homemade bomb planted at Army-Air Force recruiting office in Webster Groves, MO
- Attempted firebombing of military recruiting center in Vestal, NY
- Smashing windows and spreading fecal matter in military recruiting center in Toledo, OH
- Ten cars belonging to Marine recruiters torched in Washington, DC area

Debbie Lee, mother of the first Navy SEAL killed in Iraq spoke at the press conference about honoring the sacrifice of military men and women and their families. Rep. John Carter (R-TX) discussed his sponsorship of the “Semper Fi Act” that would strip federal funds from Berkeley, CA because of the City Council’s vote to oust Marine Corps recruiters from their downtown office, saying the Marines were "uninvited and unwelcome intruders" and giving the radical protest group Code Pink space outside the recruitment office and urging them to "impede, passively or actively" the work of Marine Corps recruiters.

Kristinn Taylor, a spokesman for FreeRepublic.com pointed out the relationship antiwar groups have to subversive organizations including InternationalANSWER and that attacks on recruiting stations are part of a larger war that anti-American groups were waging against the United States.

The conduct of the "peaceniks" at the press conference provided the best evidence of all of the violent nature of those in the antiwar movement. Violence and the supression of free speech are the tools of their trade.

A Most Inconvenient Truth

A Tale of Two Houses

gorehouse.jpg

House #1: A 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 12 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in the Northern or Midwestern 'Snow Belt' area. It is in the South.

bushhouse.jpg

House # 2: Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every 'green' feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.
!
The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

WHO OWNS THE ABOVE HOUSES?

HOUSE # 1 is outside Nashville, Tennessee; it is the home of 'environmentalist' Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas; it is the residence of President George W. Bush.

HERE'S THE PROOF: SNOPES

Capitol Police Disrupt Antiwar Press Plot

Capitol Police removed ten antiwar protesters from the Senate gallery Wednesday after they disrupted a floor debate by shouting slogans against America's participation in efforts to secure Iraq. Such outburts are not uncommon, as the anti-American group Code Pink routinely stages protests during hearings throughout the Capitol complex.

What made Wednesday's protest different was the exposure of the collaboration of Capitol Hill reporters in an event staged to suggest that protesters were being mistreated by Capitol Police. One news report described the protesters as "middle-aged" and noted that one used a cane. The article mentioned that reporters complained about not being able to witness the conduct of the police as they removed the miscreants from the building.

In the past, protesters alleged mistreatment by Capitol Police. It appears this time, protesters and members of the press colluded to manufacture a bit of propaganda that would further restrict the police in their efforts to provide security and maintain order.

Dems' Antiwar Vet Spouts Defeatism, Surrender

It is well established that the Democratic Party is totally invested in defeat in Iraq. The lastest installment can be seen in the Democratic response to President Bush's weekly radio address. Party leaders prevailed upon Roger Martinez, who served as an Army ranger in Afghanistan and Iraq to blast Sen. John McCain's pledge to continue the successful strategy put in place last year to achieve victory in Iraq.

Martinez employs the "moral authority" once reserved for Cindy Sheehan to try to give credibility to the Democratic National Committee talking points on the war and the economy. However, a hundred antiwar veterans would not make Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama fit to be Commander in Chief or the Democrats trustworthy on national security.

Eco-nuts: Save The Planet - Stop Breathing!

It should come as no surprise that the global warming, climate change scaremongers would eventually decide that human life was destroying the environment. The Old Media is awash with stories about "scientists" who are suggesting that the "world cease carbon emissions altogether."

I propose that all liberals concerned about global warming should immediately cease their personal emission of carbon dioxide. Stop exhaling!

Clintons Shoving Obama to Back of Bus

Bill and Hillary Clinton are writing another sad chapter in the racial politics of the party of Jim Crow and Bull Connor. Although Sen. Barack Obama leads in committed delegates, the Clintons are suggesting a unity ticket that puts Hillary at the top and pushes Barack behind her in the VP slot.

Even though President George W. Bush has appointed more African-Americans to positions of real importance and authority, Democrats and the Old Media continue to claim that Republicans are racist. As Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice is fourth in line of succession to the presidency, as was Colin Powell before her. Yet, such historic "firsts" gained little notice.

The Clinton manuever confirms what I have been suggesting for some time to African-Americans who see opportunity in the Democratic Party: Just because Democrats don't make you sit in the back of the bus anymore doesn't mean they will let you get behind the steering wheel.

BREAKING: ACLU Protests Surveillance Video

Rights Group Says Recording of Recruiting Station Bombing Illegal

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) issued a press release today asserting that video cameras used to record the actions of a "person of interest" in the bombing of a military recruiting station in Times Square are unconstitutional. The civil rights group claimed that the suspected perpetrator of the attack on the New York City office had the "expectation of privacy" and that the cameras constituted illegal government surveillance of a private citizen. The statement also declared that the ACLU would challenge the admissibility of any recordings should charges be filed against the individual seen riding a bicylce in the area at the time of the incident.

OK, maybe not, but it does sound like something the ACLU would do...

Wither Art Thou, Jane Fonda?

Every four years a relic of a dark period of American history emerges from cryogenic stasis to infuse a bit of radical leftist idiocy into presidential politics. Recently, feminist icon Gloria Steinem charged that misogyny is keeping Sen. Hillary Clinton from becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. Steinem spouted boilerplate gynosupremacist rhetoric at a Texas rally for the New York senator before launching into a rant against Republican Sen. John McCain. The 73-year-old remnant of the bra-burning crowd criticized America’s penchant for choosing veterans to serve as Commander in Chief and ridiculed McCain’s five-and-a-half years of captivity as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Steinem mockingly asked, "I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don’t think so."

Media reaction was subdued, not because Steinem was an individual instead of a 527 group disparaging the military service of a Vietnam veteran, but as the result of an Old Media double standard that permits scathing attacks of any kind if the target is Republican, conservative or Christian. Steinem’s vitriolic outburst led me to begin thinking about another liberal gasbag that has yet to comment on this year’s presidential stakes: Jane Fonda.

In 2004 Fonda led a get-out-the-vote effort on behalf of Democratic presidential candidate and fellow anti-Vietnam War activist John Kerry along with Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler called “Vaginas Vote.” During an interview that same year on ABC’s “Good Morning America" the actress expressed a desire to travel across America to speak out against U.S. involvement in Iraq, but conceded her Vietnam War protests left her with "too much baggage" to "do a tour like I did during the Vietnam War, a tour of the country."

I doubt Fonda’s “baggage” will constrain her from weighing in on the 2008 election considering that four years after “Vaginas Vote” American troops are still in Iraq. There is little question about Fonda’s choice since the Republican candidate has pledged to keep U.S. forces in Iraq as long as necessary if he is elected. Democrats are in the midst of deciding between two contenders competing to determine which one can wave the white flag of surrender faster. Note that Democrats only talk about ending the war in Iraq, never winning the war in Iraq.

Jane Fonda’s active participation in the debate will expose the energized and coveted youth vote claimed by Democrats to the ugly face of her antiwar ilk and the tragic legacy they inflicted on their own country over 30 years ago. Fonda can stand shoulder to shoulder with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama while America recalls the classic photograph of “Hanoi Jane” mounted on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun – the same type that shot down the plane of a Lt. Commander John McCain. A generation misled and undereducated by the leftists of the Old Media and academia will be able to learn about the collaboration of Fonda, Kerry and others with the North Vietnamese to undermine the war effort while McCain suffered torture at the hands of his communist captors.

Because the new media universe is significantly different from that of 1972, the sickening truths of a nation’s betrayal can finally come into view. All it will take is a word from Jane Fonda. Considering her recent appearance on the "Today Show" during which she blurted out a vulgarity that refers to a part of the female anatomy, I would expect that Fonda cannot hold her tongue much longer.

Dems Hate Big Oil, Love Terror Supporting Dictator

As the price of oil topped $100 a barrel on the world market and domestic gasoline prices continued to edge toward $4 per gallon, House Democrats sprang into action, taking away $18 billion in tax incentives from U. S. oil companies. H.B. 5351 would repeal tax incentives for the exploration for new sources of oil and shift them to alternative and renewable energy projects and conservation and energy efficiency programs.

However, the legislation specifically excluded Citgo Petroleum Corp., the US subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela SA, the petroblackmail weapon of anti-American, pro-Castro dictator Hugo Chavez. This is certainly in line with the thinking of Democrats who perceive Exxon to be a greater threat than an avowed enemy of the United States.

In a somewhat related development, a recent raid by Colombian forces on a FARC hideout across the border in Ecuador in which rebel leader Raúl Reyes was killed also yeilded a laptop that reportedly showed Venzuela provided $300 million in support to the terrorist organization. Information on the captured computer also indicated FARC’s desire to aquire uranium.

Senate Cowards Show Stripes

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should send Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a fruit basket today. Without Reid, Pelosi would stand alone as the most incompetent Congressional leader of modern times. Each time Mrs. Pelosi distinguishes herself with a preposterous utterance such as her recent delusional rant on "Meet the Press" about the failure of the troop surge in Iraq, Sen. Reid comes along to prove that he is every bit the fool as his counterpart in the House.

The success of the troop surge in Iraq has pushed the war off the front pages of newspapers and the nightly newscasts. With violence down across the country and troop deaths declining, the Old Media doesn't even commission polls about the war anymore, since they would likely show increasing support for the mission and a majority that believes the current strategy is working.

In an effort to appeal the rabidly antiwar leftist base of the Democratic Party, Reid threatened to put a bill on the Senate floor that would force President Bush to begin the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq within 120 days. Republicans have torpedoed similar bills in the past, but this time Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called the coward's bluff, giving Republicans the opportunity to talk about the progress in Iraq and to reinforce the perception of Democrats as the "Surrender Caucus."

McConnell suggested, "The Democrats are sort of in denial. It's almost as if they're sorry things have gotten better."

Actually, it is worse than that. Democrats are fully invested in America's defeat in Iraq, just as they were with Vietnam. The good news is that the new media environment allows Americans to see the yellow stripes on the backs of Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold, Barack Obama, et. al.

NYT "McCain Smear" Media Scandal Update

Day Two of The New York Times "McCain Smear" media scandal began with the Old Grey Lady on defense. Fraudster Elisabeth Bumiller, whose penchant for fabrication was mentioned in a previous post, filed a article in which she decribed the efforts of John McCain's senior advisers to knock down her fishwrapper's hit piece as a "deliberate campaign strategy to wage a war with the newspaper." In the liberal playbook, objecting to a scurrilous attack is "going to war."

The Politico details how the McCain campaign effectively turned the tables on the "Newspaper of Record". Give McCain credit, during those many years of cozying up to the Old Media it appears he might have learned how to smack them down when the liberals reverted to form.

Old Media Turns On "Maverick" McCain

There was no doubt that this moment would come. Republican Senator John McCain courted the Old Media for years by delighting the liberal scribes and talking heads with his frequent betrayals of his party. In fact, the Old Media's fawning over the "maverick" helped position McCain to win the Republican presidential nomination. However, once he became the opponent of the Democratic presidential contender, the Old Media reverted to form and put McCain in their crosshairs.

The New York Times launched a vicious smear against a man it endorsed only a few weeks ago with a front page story based on anonymous sources and unnamed staffers that insinuated a great deal, but substantiated nothing. This is similar to an article written by New York Times White House correspondent Elisabeth Bumiller in 2004 that I worte about in my book, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report", that suggested Vice President Dick Cheney would be dropped from the ticket. Bumiller's front page story was a work of fiction and wishful thinking, since no named sources were cited.

The storyline here is the Old Media is once again injecting itself into electoral politics. The lesson for McCain is that eventually every snake charmer gets bitten by the snake. It's what snakes do.

Old Media Mourns Fidel Castro Resignation

Express relief at smooth transition to brother Raul

The surprise resignation of Cuban "president" Fidel Castro overnight sent shock waves through the Old Media. The 49 year reign of the dictator so beloved by the American Left, particularly among Hollywood types and the media appears to be coming to an end. Few foresaw that Castro would retire, since nearly everyone thought that Castro would hang onto power until his death either by natural causes or revolution.

The Old Media seemed to be relieved that the island nation would remain under Communist rule. On CNBC, correspondent Maria Caruso Cabrera railed against Republicans for continuing the embargo on trade with Cuba that began with Democratic President John F. Kennedy. Caruso-Cabrera suggested that Republicans kept the people of Cuba locked in poverty. She typically blamed the United States, the land of liberty and opportunity that many Cubans risk the perils of the open sea to flee to as the cause of the ills of a repressive regime.

America-Hating First Lady?

It is clear at this point that the Old Media is going to give Barack Obama a pass in his quest to become president. So mesmerized are the journos by the Illinois senator's vacuous oratory are that contradictions and buffoonery that would devastate most campaigns are going to be glossed over, defended or ignored. Such is the case with the woman who would be the next First Lady, Michelle Obama who recently said:

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback, and let me tell you something, for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barck has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

Mrs. Obama has revealed a hatred of America that is shared by many of her fellow liberl elites. Listen to MSNBC's Mike Brzezinski try to explain it away on Morning Joe via Newsbusters.

A Conservative Call To Action

The Old Media coverage of Tuesday’s Potomac Primaries failed to note the significance of the results in Maryland. Not one, but two sitting members of Congress were defeated in primary challenges in the Old Line State. Incumbents should take note of the constituent dissatisfaction that is not only reflected in the historically low approval ratings for Congress, but also in the “anti-Washington” sentiments expressed during the elongated presidential nominating season.

Democrats ousted eight-term Rep. Al Wynn, who was perceived as being too pro-business in favor of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)-backed candidate Donna Edwards. To call Edwards merely “ultra-liberal” would do a disservice to the ideology Karl Marx took great pains to foist upon mankind. Edwards will likely inherit the legacy of Cynthia McKinney when she arrives on Capitol Hill next year.

Republicans gave nine-term Rep. Wayne Gilchrest his walking papers, choosing to replace him in the reliably GOP district with State Sen. Andy Harris. The challenger tripped up RINO Gilchrest, one of only two anti-war Republicans by articulating a set of conservative core values, especially on taxes.

Last week at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, I encountered an angry and deflated lot of Reaganites reeling from the results of Super Tuesday. Gov. Mitt Romney’s surprise announcement at the event that he was ending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination drove many into fits of rage, since it was clear that Sen. John McCain would become the standard bearer. The Old Media gleefully rubbed salt wounds inflicted as Alan Keyes so eloquently noted “There's not a single constituency of true conservatives that doesn't have one of John McCain's knives stickin' out of our backs."

I advised one of my fellow conservatives who adamantly declared a refusal to vote for McCain not to sit on the sidelines in November. Instead, I suggested that all of the energy and resources that would normally support a presidential candidate be directed toward a true conservative running for Congress. The next president is going to be more liberal than any conservative would like, which makes it more important to send men and women to Washington to keep the chief executive in check. The Republican-minority in the Senate has been highly successful in preventing the Democrats from prematurely pulling out of Iraq and enacting a whole host of other disastrous legislation.

After George Bush puts down his veto pen in January 2009, the only way for conservatives to impact public policy is through Congress. Taking back control of the House is certainly achievable, especially if Mrs. Clinton is at the top of the national ticket. Maintaining the filibuster minority currently in place in the Senate is also doable.

The absence of a true conservative in the race is less of a reason for despair than an imperative to act. Support conservatives running for Congress as well as governorships and state houses. The bench is weak for conservatives, which accounted for the lack of one in the presidential primaries. It is time for some fresh talent, so conservatives should direct their energies to that cause instead of grousing about John McCain.

The Case for McCain

Conservatives are unhappy with the prospect of Sen. John McCain being the Republican nominee for president. Some, like my good friend Ann Coulter have declared they will vote for Hillary, while others have threatened to sit out the balloting in November. I understand their displeasure at not having a solidly conservative candidate in which to invest and the fact that McCain seems to have been rewarded for as Dr. Dobson says, "sticking his thumb in the eyes of conservatives" on any number of issues. I have significant disagreements with John McCain on illegal immigration, tax cuts, climate change and that pesky First Amendment.

However, as I and many others have pointed out, the next president will likely fill TWO vacancies on the Supreme Court, possibly more. Two more Ruth Bader Ginsbergs will undo the Bush legacy of the Roberts court. That would probably put any chance of overturning Roe v. Wade out of reach for another generation. Consider what havoc an energized liberal court could wreak on voter ID requirements, immigration, religious expression and the family. That alone is worth keeping Clinton or Obama out of the White House.

John McCain has been steadfast in the war on terror. He put his quest for the presidency on the line with his unequivocal support for the troop surge that appears to have paved the way for victory in Iraq.

McCain's support for the dedication and sacrifice of our men and women in Iraq is the same reason that Americans - especially conservatives - should now stand behind John McCain. Clinton, Obama and the Defeatocrats have already told us - and the terrorists - that they will abandon our troops in the field and squander the success and security paid for in blood and treasure.

When the war in Iraq was going badly last year, the liberal media that romances McCain tried many times to seduce him into repudiating it. Instead, McCain said, "I'd rather lose an election than lose a war." Some of my disillusioned colleagues seem hell-bent on losing an election AND a war over a fit of pique.

It is time to move beyond the "a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain" sour grapes chorus and replace it with "a vote for McCain is a vote for the troops" - because it is just that simple, and just that serious.

Bush Plans Cut To Taxpayer Funded Liberal Media

Liberal media elites are shrieking once again over President Bush's plan to halve the amount of federal funds that go to support "public" broadcasting. Under the proposed budget, PBS and NPR would have to make do with $210 million instead of $420 million to broadcast programming vehemently opposed by 50% of the American public.

How Democrats Support U. S. Troops

The City Council of Berkeley, CA aids and abets the pro-terrorist group Code Pink to undermine the United States military. In this video clip, Code Pink protesters barricade a U. S. Marine recruiting center while the police "remain neutral."

OUTRAGE

These are the same people that Democratic members of Congress allow to disrupt Capitol Hill hearings and threaten Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans is a campaign contribution "bundler" for Democrat Barack Obama.

Will any Old Media reporter ask Barack of Hillary about Code Pink's activities at the Berkeley Marine recruiting center?

Romney Wins Big in Maine; Media Yawns

In their haste to anoint Sen. John McCain as the GOP presidential nominee, the Old Media neglected to note that Gov. Mitt Romney posted a big win in the Maine caucuses on Saturday. Romney beat McCain 52 to 21 percent and won all 18 of the delegates. So far, McCain has not broken 50% in any primary contest.

There may be a Super Bowl surprise on Super Tuesday for the Old Media.

Log Cabin Guys Get Behind McCain

The debate about which Republican candidate is the most conservative is proving difficult to resolve based on records and soundbites. However, one only needs to see who is supporting the contenders to get a read on where the candidates rank on the liberal-to-conservative spectrum.

Nearly all of the big government Republicans are supporting Sen. John McCain, despite his claims on tax cuts and lower spending. RINOs of the Arlen Specter variety find a natural ally in the "maverick" Arizona Republican. In this context, a "maverick" means being willing to stick it to conservatives whenever matters of substance come up in the Senate. Mitt Romney has it right when he recites, "McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman."

Now, the Log Cabin Republicans, who were betrothed to New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani have switched to McCain. The group of gay Republicans cited McCain's opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment as a reason to support the Arizona senator.

America-Haters Line Up Behind B. Hussein Obama

I previously reported that terrorist-supporting Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans is a contributor as well as a "bundler" for Barack Obama (BTW, Code Pink is the organization the Berkeley City Council designated as sactioned hecklers to U. S. Marine Corps recruiters.) Now MoveOn.org, the group that took out a full-page ad to denounce Gen. Petraeus as "General Betray-us" has endorsed the Illinois Democrat to be Commander-in-Chief. Over 70% of MoveOn.org's members voting gave Obama the nod. Apparently, there is a great deal of mistrust of Hillary Clinton on the Moonbat Left.

Will Obama renounce MoveOn.org's endorsement or return Code Pink's political contributions? Will the Old Media even ask him about it?

The answers: No, no and no.

McCain Wins DC GOP Straw Poll

Sen. John McCain defeated former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in Thursday's District of Columbia Republican straw poll. Few would be surprised that McCain, the Washington GOP establishment candidate emerged victorious on what amounts to home turf.

McCain garnered 43.5% of the vote while Romney came in second with 35.3%. Ron Paul received 8.1%, followed by Rudy Giuliani with 6.4% and Governor Mike Huckabee at 5.1%.

Even though a win is a win, McCain should take no comfort in the results. As a favorite son and with the air of inevitability the Old Media has surrounded him with, McCain should have broken through the 50% barrier that has thus far eluded him. So far, McCain has not gotten much more than one-third of the votes cast in any contest, even those he won. It is clear Republicans want someone else, but until this point have been unable to decide on an alternative.

DC's result suggests that party regulars unhappy with McCain are gravitating to Romney. It also indicates that Huckabee's appeal is regional and his chances of becoming the nominee almost as remote as that of "crazy uncle" Ron Paul.

The straw poll totals combined with the story from 2007 revived by Drudge today The Hill that McCain had discussions with Tom Daschle in 2001 about leaving the GOP ala Jim Jeffords might yet derail McCain's hopes for the nomination.

Segregated Democratic South Rises Again

A Mason-Dixon poll indicates that only 10% of WHITE voters in South Carolina's DEMOCRATIC presidential primary are supporting the BLACK candidate. Details from McClatchy: Obama leads Clinton in S.C. as racial divide opens

Old Media Pushing McCain

John McCain is the Old Media's candidate for the Republican nomination. The "maverick" Arizona Senator got an endorsement from The New York Times and MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell declared him the winner of Thursday night's GOP presidential debate. Kudos to Joe Scarborough for rebuking Mrs. Greenspan.

Truth be told, John McCain and the Old Media might think John McCain is a conservative, but he is not. The Old Media's affection for McCain demonstrates that he is not.

Back To The Future With Bill And Hill

The Clintons audaciously attacked Barack Obama for having a relationship with a sleazy campaign contributor only to have a photo surface that shows they had one with him, too.

rez.jpg

In typical Hillary Clinton fashion, the former First Lady told Matt Lauer, "I probably have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures. I don't know the man. I wouldn't know him if he walked in the door..."

When caught in a lie or pressed to explain a contradiction Mrs. Clinton resorts to the "faulty memory" defense. Political analyst Larry Sabato commented that incident like this remind Democrats of the "Clinton fatigue" they experienced in the 1990s.

Sabato also allowed that there is a great deal of baggage from the Clinton years that "has yet to be mined." Excuse me Larry, but at what point were you and the rest of the Old Media shills going to take a look at some of it? Recently, Mrs. Clinton declared that she is "the most vetted candidate" in the race. Why did you not challenge that statement since you believe that there is much more that hasn't been discussed?

As an aside, in the media environment that the Clintons operated in during the 1990s, the photo of the First Couple with Rezko would have never been made public. Rezko himself might have disappeared much like Craig Livingstone.

Take heart, America - it's a New Media day!

Hillary Top Presidential Porker

If the story were only about Mrs. Clinton's Rubenesque figure or the "cankles" the former First Lady conceals with her mannish pantsuits, I wouldn't even bother to write about it. I don't take cheap shots in an environment so target-rich.

The porcine predilection of which I opine is that of the erstwhile New York Democrat's 261 "earmarks" , that is, taxpayer money doled out to aid electoral fortunes.

Mrs. Clinton recently admitted, "America can't afford all of my ideas..." perhaps the only honest statement she ever made.

Each day brings another story about Muslims being offended at something harmless. Today, the source of the phony outrage is the childhood tale, "The Three Little Pigs".

However, it is still open season on Christians. The Old Media mostly skipped over ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson's drunken rant during an Atlantic City, NJ appearance during which she shouted, "F**k Jesus!"

Several groups are urging Christians to register their complaints to the unacceptable bigotry and hatred that has become all too commonplace among media and entertainment elites.

Leftists Ramp Up Bush Smear Campaigns

Continuing progress in Iraq is forcing leftists to increase their efforts to smear President Bush. A non-profit "journalism" group funded by George Soros issued a report this week aimed at reiterating the liberal canard that "Bush lied us into war." The labor union funded group, Americans United for Change have announced an $8.5 million campaign to reinforce a negative media message about the President.

Of course, the biased Old Media will do its part, uncritically accepting as fact whatever claims these groups make and not disclosing the identities or motivations of those behind them. For the bias deniers out there, compare that to the media's defamation of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Stupid Political Statements

Chuck Norris, a celebrity campaigning for Gov. Mike Huckabee gets an award for making one of the dumbest non-issue related statements of the election cycle thus far:

"I didn't pick John (McCain) to support because I'm just afraid that the vice president would wind up taking over his job in that four-year presidency..."

The facts notwithstanding, it's just not politically astute to go to "God's waiting room" and invoke the specter of the Grim Reaper.

Is Obama Bundler Terrorist Financier?

Earlier this week, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama tried to put some distance between himself and the radical anti-Semetic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. However, the Illinois Democrat has another relationship that may prove troublesome if the Old Media (or the Clintons) take notice.

Jodie Evans, co-founder of the antiwar (and anti-American) group Code Pink is fundraising for Obama. Public Citizen notes that Evans has already "bundled" $50,000 in political contributions to help B. Hussein Obama become Commander-in-Chief. That amount is only a fraction of the hundreds of thousands of dollars Evans and Code Pink supplied to "the other side" in Iraq.

Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com issued a press release Thursday calling on Obama to renounce Evans' individual contribution of $2,300:

Barack Obama has a credible chance to be the next commander-in-chief of America's armed forces. The leader of our military must have the confidence of the American people that he is not in bed with America's enemies. It is therefore incumbent upon Sen. Obama that he immediately repudiate the $2300 terrorist supporter Jodie Evans has contributed to his presidential campaign. Rather than return her blood money to Ms. Evans, the money should be given to a troop support organization of Sen. Obama's choice.

Should Sen. Obama elect to keep Ms. Evans' contribution, it will tell the American people that he shares her support for the terrorist-led insurgency in Iraq.

What say you Sen. Obama?

Chrissy Caves To Clinton Media Thugs

Journalists almost never apologize for anything. Speaking as someone who has been on the receiving end of the most sensational, biased and innacurate reporting of the 21st Century, imagine my surprise when MSNBC's "Hardball" host Chris Matthews apologized to Sen. Hillary Clinton for his allegedly "sexist" comments about her.

Clinton's thugs at Media Matters and their brownshirt minions prevailed upon the network to force Matthews to express remorse at his comments about the Mrs. Clinton and her dubious qualifications to be President of the United States.

The incident demonstrated a pathetic lack of testosterone on the part of Matthews which is not surprising for a liberal male, but the more disturbing aspect is how the Clintons brazenly beat the Old Media into submission.

Racism Alive In Democratic Party

As the result of liberal historical revisionism, few Americans realize that Democrats ruled the segregated South until the 1960s. Democrats were the party of Jim Crow and Bull Connor. Senate Democrats, including former Ku Klux Klan recruiter Robert Byrd and Bill Clinton mentor William Fulbright and Al Gore, Sr. filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The stalemate was broken by Senate Republicans ensuring passage of the bill.

The racism that never left the Democratic Party has bubbled to the surface in the battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the presidential nomination. The Clintons went out and got BET founder Robert Johnson to put the smear on Obama - in order to avoid the backlash that took place after Bill Shaheen and Bob Kerrey each took shots at the uppity Illinois senator.

Even though Republican President George W. Bush appointed more blacks to positions of real power and authority, idiots like Kanye West blurt out on national television that "Bush doesn't like black people." African-Americans have consistently given an overwhelming majority of their votes to Democrats based on illusory promises that are never fulfilled.

However, the Clintons are going to have to take down the black guy if they are to achieve their own political ends. It would not be the first time, since the Clintons pushed Maynard Jackson aside to install Terry McAuliffe as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

The lesson: Just because the Democratic Party doesn't make blacks sit in the back of the bus anymore doesn't mean it will ever let them get behind the steering wheel.

The New York Times Slanders Troops; Aids Traitors

Now that the surge has worked and political progress is taking place in Iraq, the 1960s radicals that operate The New York Times have gone back to the well-worn liberal Democratic playbook to undermine the war effort. Mired in an ideological quagmire of defeatism and driven by a hatred of President George W. Bush, the “support the troops, not the war” crowd has turned its sights on the brave men and women who protect the American homeland and who liberated 50 million people from tyrants and Islamofascists.

During the Vietnam War, longhaired, barefoot cowards marched through the streets of the United States aiding and abetting the enemy and helping to secure the defeat of their own country. Today, some of those same people run the newsrooms of the Old Media and lead the Democratic Party. Together, they once again conspire against victory in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Democrats were unable to prevent the surge, stop funding for the war on terror or force President Bush to cut and run from the battlefield. The Old Media managed to turn only about two-thirds of the country against the war with its biased coverage before the situation improved to the point where progress and success could no longer be denied. As a result, public opinion about Iraq is turning in favor of Bush and the Republicans who remained steadfast on the war.

Liberal pundits wail that Iraq will not provide the political knockout punch in 2008 that would allow Democrats to keep control of Congress and win the White House. The situation is so much improved in Iraq that the Old Media has virtually stopped reporting about the war.

Not content to simply move on, The New York Times decided to slander the troops with a hit piece. The Old Media created the myth of the Vietnam War veteran being mentally unstable and prone to going on a murderous rampage with the least provocation. The updated version suggests that veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are returning from the battlefield to wreak mayhem, violence and murder. However, analysis shows veterans to be more law biding and stable than their civilian counterparts. The authors of the article attempted no such comparison.

The New York Times is laying the groundwork for sensational reporting of a media event staged by the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Like their fraudulent counterparts, the Vietnam Veterans Against the War of which John Kerry was a member, they are planning to accuse American soldiers of war crimes and other atrocities committed on the battlefield in "Winter Soldier" hearings. Not surprisingly, the group has already announced plans for a full-page advertisement in The New York Times.

I assume the IVAW will get the “MoveOn.org discount.”

Dour Pelosi Sour On Surge

Democratic Leader Refuses To Acknowledge Surge Success

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is so invested in the defeat of the United States in Iraq that she finds it impossible to admit that the “troop surge” initiated last year has succeeded. Violence across the country has sharply declined along with American troop deaths, but that is not enough for the San Francisco Democrat. Pelosi suggests that because political progress has been slow in coming to fruition that America should abandon the fledgling democracy.

“One year ago, the President announced his plan to send thousands of additional U.S. troops to Iraq. Despite the bravery of our men and women in uniform, the primary purpose of the President's surge policy has not been achieved: the Iraqi government is nowhere near political reconciliation that would contribute to regional stability.”

Pelosi’s disparagement of every aspect of the war and denial of any positive developments is a political necessity. As leader of the Democrats’ “coward caucus”, Pelosi railed against the surge and now that it is working, stands to be proven wrong and unworthy of trust on national security and military issues. Nor can she share any credit for a successful conclusion in Iraq. Pelosi and her congressional allies are still blathering about a “new direction” in Iraq – which would be to turn away from the victory that appears achievable.

Even Pelosi’s counterpart, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid admitted recently that the surge was working, but the “grandmother with the gavel” insists that that cause is lost. The congressional elections in 2008 may be a referendum on her leadership. South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn told The Washington Post that a positive outcome in Iraq would be “a real big problem for us.” It certainly should be.

Traitor, Valerie Plame Defender Dies

Philip Agee, a former CIA agent who betrayed the identities of scores of agency operatives in a 1975 book, recently died in disgrace in Cuba. Despite his own actions exposing intelligence assests, Agee criticized the Bush administration for the "outing" of CIA officer Valerie Plame. Ironically, the 1982 Intelligence Identities Protection Act that Democrats and the Old Media claim was violated in the Valerie Plame Affair (it wasn't) by the release of Plame's name was passed into law as the result of Agee's treachery.

Old Media Embarrassed (Or Not) In New Hampshire

According to the Old Media, Sen. Barack Obama was a lock to win New Hampshire’s Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday. However, when the returns started to come in, Sen. Hillary Clinton jumped into a lead she held onto until the last ballot was counted. The former First Lady won 39% percent of the votes cast in the Granite State.

How did the Old Media get it so wrong? Polls showed the Illinois Democrat winning in a landslide with no indication of the surge that carried Clinton to victory. The results of the Republican race closely matched predictions by the same pollsters, so what happened on the Democratic side?

Some have suggested that liberal Democrats told polltakers that they planned to vote for the black guy, not wanting to be thought of as racist. In today’s politically correct hierarchy, race trumps gender. However, the results show that once women got into the voting booth, gender allegiance prevailed. The fact that these two lightweights are the frontrunners to become the Democratic nominee for president of the United States as well as Commander in Chief indicates that experience and ability are irrelevant in the selection process based on identity politics.

The scenario was further complicated by Obama’s elevation to rock star status by fawning political reporters comparing him to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy. Remember that many in the Old Media marched as rebellious youth during the 1960s for civil rights and against the Vietnam War. Nostalgia for the Woodstock era that shaped their worldview also influences their coverage of current events. Obama is Martin, Bobby and John all rolled into one.

The most ardent Obama booster might be MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. The former Peace Corps hippie and Jimmy Carter speechwriter gets all-starry eyed when talking about the object of his ideological man-crush. However, Matthews is not alone in getting caught up in the Obamamania. Plenty of others in the Old Media chatted with each other about Obama like fan club teenyboppers.

It is an amusing spectacle if one can forget that these same people still have a significant role in influencing public opinion through their presentation and interpretation of the news. They were wrong but unapologetically and unaccountably move on to the next media train wreck.

Disgruntled Voters Punish Establishment Candidates

The results of the Iowa Caucuses proved what many pundits and political analysts had suggested (and feared) about the 2008 elections: Voters want change. National front-runners of both parties fared badly, as Iowans expressed dissatisfaction with both the substance and style of some who courted their voters.

Republican Mike Huckabee and Democrat Barack Obama were the beneficiaries of what should be viewed as more of a protest vote than an endorsement of either candidate. Neither of the winners was selected on the basis of a clearly articulated message as Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas was a relative unknown and Obama, the junior senator from Illinois did little to distinguish himself policywise from the field of leading Democrats.

Sen. Hillary Clinton tried, in the last weeks before the caucuses to associate herself with “change.” However, more that any other candidate in the presidential sweepstakes, Clinton represents “business as usual.” Being the second Clinton in the potential Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton string of succession is particularly difficult to downplay.

Sen. John McCain, once considered a GOP favorite (if only by the Old Media) suffers a similarly from being perceived as a perennial Washington insider. McCain has a long record of unpopular legislation that bears his name, from the First Amendment encroaching McCain-Feingold campaign financing law to the failed Kennedy-McCain comprehensive (amnesty for illegal aliens) immigration reforms.

Incumbents and challengers across the country at all levels should understand the potential impact of the voters’ restive mood. The “right-track, wrong-track” polls reflect the disaffection of the electorate toward policies currently in place and those responsible for them. Thought the issues may be different depending on political party, for Democrats, health care and the Iraq War, and for Republicans, government spending and illegal immigration, the net result may be the same for an incumbent. So strong is the anti-Washington sentiment that the National Republican Congressional Committee is encouraging the challengers to incumbent Democrats to run against Congress.

The early start of the selection process exacerbated the unhappiness voters already expressed in the 2006 midterm elections. Since the primary process became front-loaded for 2008, it is possible that both parties will have decided upon their nominees by the middle of February. What is there to do until the conventions at the end of the summer and Election Day in November? That is a long time to keep folks interested and motivated enough to go to the polls.

Such a scenario also creates an environment for an independent or third party candidate to get into the race. Republican (if only in name) Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City possesses the intoxicating combination of elevated levels of ego and personal wealth to make such a run. A John McCain-Joe Lieberman ticket is not outside the realm of possibility, either.

The volatile political landscape leaves pundits and political prognosticators in the same position as weather forecasters. The sunrise and sunset is certain, but what happens in between is anyone’s guess. Election Day will be November 4, however the names on the ballot are more of a mystery than at any time in the past 60 years.

So far, the only sage advice I have to offer: Incumbents beware!

The New York Times’ America

The editorial board of The New York Times began the New Year by publishing a diatribe against the Bush administration, something that often occurs and came as no surprise. However, the tone of this particular editorial apparently inspired by the CIA’s destruction of terrorist interrogation tapes provided great insight into the reason for the Old Grey Lady’s increasing irrelevancy as a news source and a barometer of public opinion.

First of all, the editorial reads like the lunatic rantings from one of the left wing blogs that run the Democratic Party salted with a dash of the Times’ sneering liberal elitism. The familiar lament that, “There are too many moments these days when we cannot recognize our country” reveals quite a bit about The New York Times’ America.

The editors and reporters of The New York Times probably do not recognize much of the country west of the Lincoln Tunnel on any given day. Places with names like Beatrice, Nebraska and Kalispell, Montana remain mysterious dots in the middle of a wide swath of red on a political map of America. The land is so unfamiliar to liberal journalism elites that following the 2004 election, The Washington Post dispatched two reporters to drive through “Red State America” to discover how President Bush could have possibly been re-elected.

The New York Times editorial decries the “lawlessness” of the Bush administration yet hides behind the First Amendment while committing treason on its own front page by exposing classified programs that have uncovered terrorist plots. When The New York Times is not providing America’s national security secrets to its enemies, the “newspaper of record” must amuse and delight even the most joyless jihadist. Reading about the liberal hand wringing over the treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay and the interception of terrorist communications surely gives the al Qaeda crowd a chuckle with their coffee at the start of another day of strapping suicide vests to children and lopping off the heads of infidels.

The editorial claims that “Out of panic and ideology, President Bush squandered America’s position of moral and political leadership” after September 11, 2001. It is doubtful the 9/11 victims’ families take any comfort in the knowledge that their loved ones died with America’s reputation intact. The newspaper fails to note Democrats' complicity in all of the enumerated "crimes."

In the minds of those at The New York Times and their elitist sycophants, George Bush and Dick Cheney pose more danger to America than Osama bin Laden, Mahmood Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il. Much of their current rage centers on the practice of “waterboarding.” The interrogation technique reportedly used sparingly – and successfully – has kindled the flames of moral outrage on the left about terrorists being “tortured.”

That high moral ground might be ceded to the liberals were it not for their own conduct. While Bush and his team might have pushed the envelope on what rational people consider humane, it was done in the name of protecting innocent life – and proves to do so. Compare that to an ideology that kills babies for political gain, innocuously describing support for infanticide as being “pro-choice.”

The New York Times reveals its crass political aims in the final paragraph of the piece stating, “We can only hope that this time, unlike 2004, American voters will have the wisdom to grant the awesome powers of the presidency to someone who has the integrity, principle and decency to use them honorably.”

Considering that the newspaper believes no Republican embodies such qualities, it must be suggesting that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton does. That speaks volumes about The New York Times’ America.

Uncertain New Year!

Like most years, Americans ushered in 2008 with fireworks and frivolity. First-day festivities full of food, family and football serve as distractions from the cares and concerns of the everyday world. However, the scenes that played out across the country provide only a brief respite from what lies ahead.

Over 200 years ago, Benjamin Franklin wrote, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” The Founder’s words are more apt today than ever before, as America appears to be entering an Age of Uncertainty, with an unsettling number of unpredictable outcomes to be ultimately decided in the coming year.

The next president of the United States will be chosen before the next ball drops in Times Square, yet the process has only become more muddled in an elongated election season. No clear leader exists in either party, let alone an odds-on favorite to win in November. The lack of an incumbent for the first time in a generation ensures a political free-for-all. The agenda that the eventual winner pursues is anyone’s guess.

Economic indicators seem to be pointing in two directions at once. Interest rates and unemployment are low while stock prices and productivity are high, yet a credit crunch and rising oil prices appear as dark clouds on the horizon. Few are uttering confident predictions about future economic conditions.

The war in Iraq, which many viewed as lost a year ago, now shows the possibility of success. Al Qaeda has been routed in Iraq, only to wreak havoc in Pakistan. Other trouble spots could erupt at any moment.

Al Gore leads a worldwide movement that believes mankind is responsible for global climate change, yet a significant number of scientists think the dire consequences suggested are nonsense and draconian remedies unnecessary.

Atheists stridently promote their godless gospel and sow the seeds of doubt among those whose foundation in faith is shaky.

So much uncertainty diminishes hope and amplifies despair. The challenge for the coming year may be to maintain a positive outlook in the face of that uncertainty.

Uncertain New Year!

Another Liberal Myth Destroyed

At the height of the Gannongate hysteria, liberal journalism elites and Hillary Clinton's thugs at Media Matters for America justified their crusade against me by suggesting that because "day passes" to the White House briefing room were nearly impossible to get, that there was something sinister about my presence there for two years. To support that theory, Garrett Graff, a former Howard Dean campaign worker, chronicled what he complained was an arduous effort to be allowed into the press briefings as a blogger in March of 2005.

However, now Graff presents himself as a "political expert" and admits in a recent interview that the process to get a "day pass" was, ironically "relatively liberal".

Q: How hard is it to get a press pass?

I mean, you call someone up and say you have this Livejournal which somewhere between 1 and a million people read, and cross your fingers?

Garrett:

Although there was
