Dems wail about ANWR tactic, but did same to protect Clinton
Senate Democrats took to the floor today to complain that Republicans were breaking the rules by inserting approval for gas and oil drilling in ANWR in a defense appropriations bill. They helped hold up the bill for three months until John McCain's anti-torture language was put in. The measure also includes non-defense items such as Katrina relief and aid to families in the Northeast to help pay their home heating bills this winter.
But Democrats did the same thing very recently when they slipped language into an appropriations bill that would suppress the full release of the Barrett Report, specifically a part that relates to the Clinton administration's use of government agencies to harass and intimidate political enemies. Their hypocrisy on this issue is stunning, but you won't hear anything about it from the Old Media.
Tony Snow has the details, the most important point:
"They [Democrats] got what they wanted recently, when the House and Senate met to iron out differences in yet another appropriations bill. Democrats inserted language that would prevent public release of the 120 pages of the report listing the Clinton transgressions."
