Capitol Hill Cowards
With its invasion of neighboring Georgia, Russia has signaled a return to Soviet-style foreign policy. While the free world rallies behind the small democratic nation, Democrats in Congress dither over defense aid to the former Soviet republics and countries of Eastern Europe that endured 80 years of Communist rule.
The 'peacenik' crowd on Capitol Hill, led by Rep. Ellen Tauscher, (D-Moscow) is opposing a deal between the United States and Poland for installation of defensive missiles. Democrats frequently talk about America's strained relations with its allies, but never realize it is their failure to support friendly countries at a time of crisis that has done the damage, not the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No Thank You, Ms. Thomas
The Old Media continues to lavish praise on Helen Thomas, a nasty little woman masquerading as an objective reporter at the White House. HBO has produced a documentary about Thomas, prompting Newsweek to publish a suck-up interview with the opinion writer. The author recites a familiar liberal lie in the first paragraph:
"For that, the Bush administration banished her to the back of the pressroom after she continued to press the president on his reasons for going to war."
Thomas has occupied the same seat in the briefing room for decades. In fact, the Hearst columnist's chair bears her name engraved on a brass plaque - not the news service she works for, unlike every other reporter.
As I wrote in my book, Thomas deserves respect for breaking down barriers for women in journalism, but the accolades should stop there. Thomas' shrill anti-Semitism and Bush-hatred deserves condemnation, not admiration.

Welcome to the War, Sen. McCain
Sen. John McCain is taking NBC to task for its pro-Obama bias. Following the Arizona senator's solid performance at Saturday's Civic Forum at Pastor Rick Warren's Saddleback Church, senior correspondent Andrea Mitchell commented that some "Obama people" were suggesting "that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well prepared."
The Politico has the details and the letter the McCain campaign sent to Steve Capus, president of NBC News.
McCain has finally come to the realization that the long-term love affair between the Old Media and the Maverick is over. The Old Media kept the relationship going long enough to help McCain become the Republican nominee - then turned on him - as many on the right predicted.
I devoted an entire chapter in my book, "The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report" to the Old Media's pro-Democrat political activism in 2006. In 2008, the Old Media is not even pretending to be objective. In fact, the Federal Election Commission may rule that The New York Times is a 527 group.

Obama Osama

Q: What do these two men have in common?
A: Both have friends who bombed the Pentagon.
Osama's friend, al Qaeda operative Hani Hanjour flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon on Septemeber 11, 2001.
Obama's friend, radical militant "Weatherman" William Ayers bombed the Pentagon in the 1970s. Ayers remains unrepentant and the Obama campaign defends him in its pushback against Jerome Corsi's "The Obama Nation" saying, "AYERS AND (fellow radical Bernadette) DOHRN ARE MEMBERS OF THE ESTABLISHMENT WITH TIES TO THE MAYOR."

House GOP Revolt Rages On
Pelosi Bans C-SPAN Coverage

Republican lawmakers returned the U.S. Capitol Monday to resume their demands for a vote on offshore oil drilling. On Friday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi ordered the lights and microphones in the House chamber shut off while GOP members spoke about energy independence. The Democratic leader also closed the press galleries and forced C-SPAN to discontinue broadcasting.
Two dozen GOP stalwarts pledged to continue their protest of Pelosi’s adjournment of the House for five weeks without allowing an up-or-down vote on opening the Outer Continental Shelf to oil exploration. They are calling on the Speaker to call the House back into session to solve America’s energy crisis.
The Old Media is doing its part to ignore the extraordinary events taking place in the U.S. Capitol. Only a handful of reporters showed up for a press conference on Monday with the insurgent Republicans. The questions offered by the Congressional press corps demonstrated their pro-Democratic bias. One reporter implied that President Bush should be calling Congress into emergency session. Another got a chuckle out of the Representatives in questioning the amount of energy they used to come back to Washington.
Rep Tom Price (R-GA) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) deftly handled the reporters’ attempts to divert attention away from the issue of Pelosi’s refusal to allow a vote and her Stalinist tactics to keep their voices from being heard. Pence said, “ A majority of Americans want Congress to return.”
Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) chastised Pelosi saying, “She made history by becoming the first female Speaker of the House, she can make history again by calling us back and letting us vote.”
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) accused the Speaker of risking a “shutdown” of America’s economic engine.
Perhaps the best quote of the day came from a question posed by yours truly. I asked Rep. Price to comment on Pelosi’s remarks during her incoherent interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that suggested Republicans should “use their imagination” to get a vote.
Price said, “We imagine a Speaker of the House who will live up to her responsibility and her oath.”
In a later follow up, Price told me that despite Pelosi’s efforts to keep their floor protest out of the public view, Republicans planned to work with home-state news outlets as well as the New Media to garner grassroots support.
